UK Games Charts 18/02/13 - Aliens Crashes to the Top

In retail space, no one can hear you scream.

It’s a good week for space-dwelling terror-mongers. While Dead Space 3 drops down to second place, Sega’s Aliens: Colonial Marines nabs the top spot. In spite of lacklustre last minute reviews, Gearbox’s trip to the USS Sulaco is the year’s biggest release so far.

FIFA 13 stays in third spot, increasing its week-on-week sales. Assassin’s Creed III climbs up to sixth position after some price promotion while Ni no Kuni plummeted from sixth to twenty-fifth this week.

The start of half term break is credited for many of the top ten showing decent sales bumps. That’s curious, considering that some are rated 18.

Here’s the top 20:

  1. ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES – SEGA
  2. DEAD SPACE 3 – ELECTRONIC ARTS
  3. FIFA 13- ELECTRONIC ARTS
  4. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II – ACTIVISION BLIZZARD

I sense a lot of pre-owned copies of A:CM in GAME and Cex soon somehow…

ha yeah. I wonder if GAME stores lose out after selling a £40 game, price matching a trade in for £30 with CEX, and then rarely making a pre-owned sale until the game is £7 one day.

Sadly Aliens doesn’t deserve to be top, but I did enjoy the gameplay and Multiplayer.
Only 8 games mention in the chart that I still own =D
Crysis 3 will probably knock Aliens down, or a few gamers might trade Aliens for Dead Space 3 hell even trade it for Crysis 3

Metal Rising will probably be above it too.

The release schedule is starting to pick up again.

Despite poor reviews I’m still keen on getting Aliens, just really want to try it for myself. Not fussed by Crysis 3, or Dead Space 3 at the moment.

I would suggest renting it. I too wasn’t too fussed by the reviews as I’m a huge Aliens fan so decided to rent a copy and give it a try. It’s a good game (no where near the 3/10 scores a lot of places gave it) but it does have its problems.

The multiplayer is ace, both when playing as the Aliens and the Marines, and the co-op is a lot of fun (albeit a little cramped at times what with all the narrow corridors).
Its actually the single player I found which let it down. Simply put, it feels generic and lacks any sort of atmosphere. These faults are forgotten when playing with a few mates, but if you are planning on playing the game alone its worth knowing.

Yeah I’m mostly interested by coop thankfully. I really enjoyed survivor mode on AVP so hopefully this can be on par. Thanks for letting me know about the single player. Being a big fan like you just really makes me difficult to resist the game.

The only reason it has low reviews is due of it being a different game from before like E3 or whatever. In short its another scam from Gearbox, I’m never supporting that company again.

I bet Take Two are very happy to see their (nearly) 5 year old game in the top 20.

Seeing as the reviews weren’t allowed to be published untill it was released, i’m not surprised it’s at the top as a lot of people believed it would be a decent game. I suspect it will either be nuked from orbit by a lot of people or just traded in.

I pre-ordered Crysis 3 for my pc, it is out on the 20th of Feb. Will be nice to see how the ol’ computer reactes to the onslaught on its capacity. It will most probably melt my graphics card. Any one interested in playing Crysis 3 on the pc with or againts me, let me know.
