There are various stories this morning stating that Jason West has left Respawn Entertainment, citing unnamed sources close to the developer.
The reason given is “family issues”, and there’s also the claim that West is retiring. Another rumour suggests that West has not been active in the development of the studio’s first title for a number of months.
Jason West, who originally co-founded Infinity Ward, founded Respawn Entertainment with fellow Infinity Warder Vince Zampella after a fallout with Activision over various legal issues surrounding the Call Of Duty games.
This fallout led to many Infinity Ward staff leaving to join West and Zampella at Respawn.
The departure follows the announcement that Respawn will be present at this year’s E3 to show what they have been working on. So far we’ve only had a rather blurry tease from the studio, which was released in June 2011.
There hasn’t been any official word from Respawn Entertainment as of yet regarding this departure, but we’ll update as soon as we hear anything more.

Wouldnt of thought so. If he is leaving, I’d imagine he retiring rather than moving to a different studio. It doesn’t really make sense for him to move half way through development of their first game to a different studio. The whole point of founding Respawn was so he could be in charge with Zampella and not have to be told what to do by anyone.
Exactly, even their deal with EA is set up as an EA Partners deal, so EA only have minimal control of the end product. He’s also got a boat load of money from Acti, and I don’t think he an Zampella had to put much capital into Respawn (at least not compared to what their Acti pay offs are rumoured to be). He’s probably going to retire, live on a beach with his family and maybe consult via Skype from said beach.
I bet he’s still holding on to all his shares in Respawn.

Hes taken cover behind a dead cow ever since Blops 2 was halfway worthy of the brand they sold to Activision.Turns out that after all this time that the cow was actually a horse.
Guy who made shooters, gets sacked, goes and sets up another studio which makes shooters.
But leaves.
The world now has one less guy making shooters & he gets to do what he wants after doing bugger all since being paid off a load of money?
Wins all round then.
Now, if only a few more people would do something other than make shooters
