Sucker Punch CV Says PS4 Shipping 2013, Second Son A Launch Title

Second Son. Fourth Quarter.

This is a tricky one. It’s always worth taking any news story with a pinch of salt if it’s based off a resumé, as this one is. And especially now that resumé has been altered, there’s an element of just taking our word for it and we totally understand if you’d rather not. So, with that little word of warning out of the way, let’s get on with it.

The resumé of a graphics programmer at Sucker Punch Productions has found its way online and been spotted by the keen eyes of the guys at Siliconera. The resumé has since been altered to remove the references to dates but not before a screen grab was taken (below). In summary, the entry said that Second Son, the inFamous sequel that looked gorgeous at the PlayStation 4′s unveiling, will be shipping in Q4 2013 as a PlayStation 4 launch title.

inFamous Second Son PS4 Launch Title

The resumé also says lots of other, potentially more interesting things. For instance, the graphics programmer in question claims to have taken a leadership role in implementing HDR into the game engine as well as real time wetness and water effects, haze, reflection and depth of field effects. All of that, in very basic terms, means that inFamous Second Son is going to look absolutely gorgeous.

I’m going to assume this isn’t true (at least the Q4 2013 bit) as it couldn’t be a launch title… unless Sony delayed the system by a year.

If you hadn’t have said that, I’d have been thinking it was 2012 for the rest of the day.
        Fail on my part:)

May be a launch title in Q4 2013 but nothing to say which territories.

Surely a global launch must be possible at this day and age, didn’t the Wii U have one?

If those rumours about them wanting 16 million units ready for launch are true, they’ll be able to launch worldwide and probably not need to restock for a year or two…

Wii U launched a week early in the US and Japan, I think. And didn’t sell very well, which promptly stopped those Nintendo warnings about potential stock shortages.

I think they’ll be careful to get supply close to what they predict demand will be – they won’t want too much stock floating around because the stories about possible stock shortages are marketing gold for them but they’ll also want to be able to hand one over to anyone willing to give them money before that potential customer has a chance to change their mind.

Those 16 million units will come in doubly handy if the anticipated Xbox 7Terry also released before Christmas.

Sony aren’t quite as pig headed as they were in 2006 (I think), and won’t be expecting people to ‘get a second job’ to buy the PS4. They also must realise that if there is a shortage of PS4s, many in the US will just buy an Xbox 7Terry.

With launch windows looking to be aligned this time, the battle for leading the console sales count will be critical, mostly because the gaming press will be reporting on it with foaming mouth regularity.

    Q4 2013 financial year is Jan 1st – Mar 31st 2014 so it is feasible…

I thought it had already been announced that PS4 would be released “holiday season” 2013 which would be Christmas time. I could be wrong though.

it flashed up at the end of the reveal event in New York so we are expecting it – in one region at least.
