Firaxis May Have Teased XCOM: Enemy Unknown Sequel At PAX East

The reboot of the X-COM franchise, with Enemy Unknown, became a bit of hit when it released late last year, receiving positive reviews including a 9/10 from us. Now it looks like Firaxis and 2K are looking to expand the resurrected franchise with a new entry, though whether it will be DLC or a whole new game is unknown.

The teaser is just approximately 40 seconds long but that short time frame holds a lot of potential information. One of the opening lines is that the “war still continues”, which would strengthen the claim this is a sequel to Enemy Unknown. The other major point of this trailer is that there is a new enemy from a different origin. That narrative is spoken during a section of the trailer that looks like the sun reflecting off some water.

Could Firaxis be working on an X-COM: Terror From The Deep reboot or even a sequel? Terror From The Deep was the second title in the original XCOM franchise, and a sequel to the first X-COM game. If Firaxis is looking to follow an old path then this would be the most logical answer.

Of course it’s just speculation for now, but I’m sure we’ll hear news soon.

  1. Terror From The Deep was one of the hardest games I’ve ever played.

  2. Does kinda sound like Terror From The Deep, hopefully they’ve learned a lot from super-steep difficulty ramp in Enemy Unknown

    • … learned that a steep difficulty curve sorts the men from the boys (figure of speech) and offers an excellent challenge over the usual hand holding, spoon feeding, crowd pleasing games? ;)

  3. If it’s Terror From The Deep then shut up and take my money.

  4. Nooo….
they should do a new Railroad Tycoon first…
