Not everybody is all that excited about GTA V, but it’s still going to be one of the year’s biggest games, with only Call of Duty and a couple of others that can hope to come close.
And here, after a couple of days of speculation (based on a New York mural painting) is the final artwork for the game’s cover.

Rockstar have uploaded various versions of this to their site in a variety of sizes for wallpapers, albeit ones with the artwork centred in a big black space.
The game is out in September.
Origami Killer
The dog and iphone is all I took from that cover.
Bilbo_bobbins
boring….next please
cam the man
Yeah, couldn’t care less what’s on the cover of a game.
Bilbo_bobbins
I couldn’t when it comes to GTA, it’s been the same old drip feed crap every year, then the same old gameplay every year. It’s boring.
Origami Killer
Every year? 2008 wasn’t last year.
Bilbo_bobbins
Ok sorry, every game not every year.

Or alternatively you could hold your undue cynicism to yourself.
Whilst GTA (or other Rockstar games) might not be your ‘style’ of game, it’s still an extremely entertaining game with literally hundreds of hours of game play for those who love sandbox games – a genre that only sees sporadic new releases in this age of corridor gaming. That they can produce epic vistas AND gorgeous graphics is truly remarkable.
GTA V may use the same (very popular) formula (what I assume you mean by same old gameplay) but unlike some other massive franchises (cough CoD, BF, EA Sports cough) at least makes the effort to set each one apart in both locale and story. It also doesn’t suffer from yearly refresh syndrome, with R* instead opting to expand the games main release with add-on packs, perhaps Activision and EA could learn something there. A quick refresher for you as you seem to think otherwise:
Grand Theft Auto (1997) – Topdown
Grand Theft Auto 2 (1999) – Topdown
Grand Theft Auto III (2001) – 3D
Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) – 3D
Grand Theft Auto V (2013) – 3D
Not to mention that almost every GTA has been a generational technical improvement that leaves the graphics whores drooling and the majority of gamers wildly impressed by the scale and scope of their new playground.
Honestly, your comments are akin to saying the same thing about Gran Turismo 5 prior to release. Drip fed, same gameplay… but still brilliant.

Well said.
I much prefer to wait a few years for a very good game than have R* release slightly improved vis/gameplay every year. I always look forward to a game like GTA or GT more when you’ve waited a long time for it.
As for being drip-fed news, better to have the info from the developers than just rumours.

Dammit TSA, when did you turn formatting options off? :)
Bilbo_bobbins
To be honest, I stopped playing GT after the second one, because I did find it boring too. It is the same gameplay, just better graphics, and that is all GTA is. It’s not different each time, other than the change from top down to 3d its the same missions just slightly changed. There are other games that do this type of gameplay but is actually fun, while GTA takes itself too seriously and too repetitive. I wont even be looking at the next one, because I know exactly how it will play out….the same as last time.
posem
is the GTA4 console online hackable now? I was playing multiplayer yesterday and someone gave me a ton of cash in the game mode, jumped up from lvl6 -> lvl9
Flash
Pretty sure it is. I went on recently and kept getting teleported around the map.
skibadee
kool roll on September.
yiddo
Can not wait. This game is going to be so good. If it doesn’t end up being on next gen consoles (I kind of think it will) then it shall be one of the PS3’s last – but greatest – games.
Tuffcub
Here’s a packshot for a game THAT NO ONE HAS SEEN YET.
EVERYONE GET EXCITED!!!
Bilbo_bobbins
well said Tuffcub, exactly what I’m saying but no one wants to hear it.
Kennykazey
Possibly the worst cover-art in the series so far. They need to be more daring.
Eldave0
*Sigh* Copy/Pasta design as always then.
gazzagb
Predictable, but still looking forward to the game.
bunimomike
It’s instantly recognisable and that’s the way they want it. Sadly, it’s also shockingly formulaic and boring as watching Dad’s Army re-runs.
Bilbo_bobbins
thank you, at least I’m not the only one who finds this game boring as hell
skibadee
Mikes talking about the cover he enjoys the games I think.
bunimomike
Haha! Aye… Skib is right. I’m fine with the games (although I want to see them pushing the franchise as I think it’s starting to suffer with fatigue).
However, that cover, no matter how clichéd it is, is instantly recognisable from way across any game store (over most game boxes) which is essential for brand recognition. I just wish they could also risk a bit more diversity when it comes to the design.
