PS Vita Update 2.10 Also Adds Email, Sound And PlayStation Plus Enhancements

In addition to folders, Sony have confirmed the other tweaks to the PS Vita’s operating system that’ll be updated in version 2.10.

Firstly the details on folders, though: 10 icons can be stored in each folder, but you’re still limited to 100 applications and games in total, which seems a bit odd.

Confirmation on the video playback info has appeared, too – the Vita can now play videos in the internet browser, although it’s not going to be all formats. We’re hopeful this means streaming sites will work well.

The other stuff is as follows:

  • Group Messaging can now send to more than one person.
  • Email can display HTML messages and offer multiple addresses per contact
  • Photos can be zoomed in (in HD)
  • and PlayStation Plus game saves can be uploaded over 3G

Apparently that’s just “some” of the new features, so we’ll double check for any secrets (as is the norm) when the firmware is released.

The firmware goes live overnight tonight.

  1. The folders option should have been there from the start, cant wait to have everything on the main screen, #ABOUT TIME!

  2. Looks like PSM saves will auto-upload if you have Plus like regular Vita games do now as well.

  3. 100 games & apps doesn’t sound that limited to me. I’m sure that’s important for some but I’d highly doubt that’s the majority. Probably why they haven’t increased it.

    • I probably fall into the ‘some’ category, but I find it quite limiting when you only use one big memory card to store everything. Plus the 100 limit includes icons for your physical games and the non-optional apps.

  4. Like the idea of folders, easy way of sorting what you use often and not.
I thought you could send a message to more than one person?

  5. Still stuck with the 100 icons limit… ah well, I think i’ll stick with my 16GB card and pick up a smaller one just for minis/ps1/psp games. Nice to see some other features being tweaked along the way.

  6. 100 icons is about right for a 32gb card……I’m at 98 on mine & that includes my 11 icons for physical games.

  7. Firmware is live, I’m downloading it right now.

  8. Great update!

Streaming videos (mostly working) is a HUGE addition. For example, YouTube embedded on SixthAxis articles works. Flash-based videos don’t seem to. Testing ‘other’ sites yields mixed results :)

    • Hmm, the update to Email (I’m using a Gmail account) prevents some of my emails opening and I don’t know why. It seems you cannot disable if HTML is on or not.

    • I love having Youtube on it, since I live in one of those “unsupported” countries where we don’t get the app.
