Podcast: Episode 101 - The Xbox Reveal, Star Trek: Into Darkness and The Last of Us

Starting our journey to 200.

After our hard fought climb to episode one hundred ended last week, it’s time to start the ascent to the next summit – episode two hundred. Of course you’ve got another hundred episodes of lunacy until we get there, so lets get cracking with episode 101.

This week was an oddly focused episode, with a pretty significant chunk of the podcast dedicated to our thoughts on the next Xbox reveal, which is coming tomorrow. Perhaps the amount of time we spent on this was due to the lack of Kev this week; he does have a knack of keeping things ticking over.

Regardless, it was an interesting discussion that was quickly followed up by Peter and Lewis chatting about Star Trek: Into Darkness, before Peter rounded off the first half of the podcast by taking a look at The Last of Us.

Then came our weekly quiz, which was ridiculously difficult this week. Although Lewis did manage to come up with some fairly funny questions about words, the answers were incredibly difficult to puzzle out. Finally, we dug into our bag of listener questions, answering anything you threw at us.

  • Please send us questions via email to podcasts[at]thesixthaxis.com.
  • You can also tag your questions on Twitter with #tsacast and, provided you’re not on a private account, we’ll see them in our search each week. Finally, as usual, there’s a questions thread in the forum.

This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.

  • As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download).
  • You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here.
  • Or we’re on iTunes, when iTunes feels like updating. You can also leave us a review and subscribe there, if you want to be particularly lovely.

the PS3 Youtube app is ok for single videos, but the lack of support for video creators playlists is a big annoyance for me.
if you want to watch a Youtube series it’s really awkward on the PS3.

the PS3 games usually smell like almonds to me, you know those almond fingers you can get that are a sponge finger with a slice of almond on the top, they smell like those.
    and i love those things.

when i bought Ni No Kuni i didn’t need to stick my nose into the case, the smell was strong enough that even at arms length i could smell it.
i just checked, and i can still smell it, though now i have to stick my nose in the case.
i opened the Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen case for the Xbox, but didn’t really get any smell from that one.

so i’d have to say i prefer the PS3 new game smell.

and i’m with Peter, smelling your games isn’t that odd.
one of the first things i do when i open a brand new game is smell it.

smell is one of the more emotive senses, it’s closely linked to emotive memories
have you ever smelled something and been reminded of something that happened years ago that you hadn’t thought about in years?

it’s not just the smell itself i enjoy, though i do enjoy like the smell, it’s the memories it brings back.
from back before i became all cynical and jaded. ^_^

i put, animal like, as the answer to number 1 in the quiz, that’s like half a point right?
i was miles away on everything else.

    poor show for me. :(

i look forward to the general knowledge quiz next week, i watch a lot of game shows and sometimes i actually remember stuff. ^_^

Good one TSA crew ^^. very interesting conversation about the next generation console fight that is soon to be fought. I personally, as an PlayStation “fanboy”, wouldn’t buy an XBOX even if they would sell immortality as free gift with it, so I’m not bothered of what Microsoft will show, maybe just a bit curious.

What I don’t like about the YouTube app on PS3 is that I cannot use my Sony bluetooth keyboard to input search words, video titles etc. I think it’s a joke that wasn’t implemented. Can say anything about Netflix, because it’s not available in my “beautiful” country.

I don’t think DriveClub and GT6 will need to compete with each other. I think the Evolution studios game is more like Test Drive Unlimited (most expensive and fastest cars, leather seats, etc.) and GT6 is more like Gran Turismo (no kidding!), it’s just the best racing series out there ^^.
