The application states “Television viewing tends to be a passive experience for a viewer, without many opportunities for the viewer to engage or have interactive experiences with the presented content”. It further adds “to increase interactive viewing and encourage a user to watch one or more particular items of video content, awards and achievements may be tied to those items of video content.”
Although we don’t know if or how this will be implemented, Xbox One TV viewers could potentially see themselves receiving achievements for, let’s say, watching an entire TV series or a sporting event.
How would you feel about receiving achievements for watching your favourite shows? Or would you even be encouraged to watch other TV shows if this were to be implemented?

I always felt that I should be rewarded for my awesome TV watching skills…

WatchBox 360 would have been a better name.
Or perhaps Advertbox 360..

This has got to be a joke , right?

Of course, you get the achievement only if you sit through the commercial breaks…

Another reason not to connect your tv to the Xbox One. Why be an unwitting participant in Microsofts pursuit of providing an endless amount of customer data to Third Parties in the pursuit of further revenue for themselves? This is the main reason behind tv achievements, so they can reel you in and ensure your Xbox One is connected. They will either get you to watch something you dont want to watch, tune in to a channel you dont like etc. The bottom line is once its connected, Microsoft will collect loads of anonymous viewing data to be exploited. Check the small print people, and you will find waving your hands whilst watching a Shake & Vac advert wont just net you an achievement, but will end up reporting on all your tv viewing habits.

I’ve discovered a fool proof way not to be at all concerned about any barmy ideas like this MS come up and i saved money too.want to know more…..
I don’t intend to buy Xbox One!. What????? yes, that’s right Susan, as a busy, working gamer of some past 30 years, i’ve seen all manner of gimmicks and incentives come and go and come back again.Motion control, 3D with or without glasses, Home V.R and it’s just not for me.
Bottom line here really is, if features like this really are’nt for you, then best bet avoid the product, spend money on something you will get enjoyment from, without the concerns of who’s watching who.If people avoid any product with crap like this, message will soon hit home that as an experiment, it’s been a costly failure and it’ll be consigned to the rubbish bin of ideas.
Time will tell which way the wind really is blowing here-Is it a case of my god i’m so angry, i’m going to rant on the internet (mumble..yet still buy the console as it has games i want) or..my god i’m actually shocked by what’s being forced on me, i’m not paying good money to further push the idea to MS that this is actually the sort of crap i want/am happy to put up with, so sorry MS, but i’m out!.
I did’nt want Kinect saw no use it in my home, did’nt buy it.Now i’ve not the option of having it with or without the console, still don’t want it, so not buying the console.Worked out fine so far……

This isn’t directly related to the idiotic idea of achievements for watching TV, more the whole xbox in general. But does anyone else get the impression that the big wigs at Microsoft recently read 1984 and thought “what a brilliant idea, let’s go down that route”. So once they sell their BILLION xboxs they can start to topple the world’s governments and control everything, outlawing all other operating systems except windows 8. It’s one hell of a business plan you must admit albeit warped, delusional and ridiculous.

Best idea ever. I can earn useless achievements that serve as bragging rights by sitting on my arse and watching TV. /Sarcasm. MS, you do realise that the sole purpose of a console is to play games right? As this past week seems to imply that the Xbox one is a multi media box with little to no focus on gaming. :S
Crazy Del is going to watch everything on TV just so he can be TSA’s number one Achievement hunter isn’t he? :O

I’m a gamer, if there are points and achievements involved I suspect I will soon be hooked!
