Take A Look At Futurlab’s Velocity 2X For Vita And PS4

You might have spotted the announcement of Futurlab’s Velocity 2X for Vita and PS4 during Sony’s press conference from Gamescom. Well, we can tell you a little bit more about it now the cat is out of the bag.

Or, should we say, the pilot is out of the ship? That’s the biggest new change to gameplay in Velocity 2X – there are now sections where you leave the ship and play a kind of puzzling platformer as Lt. Kai Tana. Velocity, on foot? Madness!

Don’t worry though, the scrolling shooter is still very much a scrolling shooter, with that innovative teleport mechanic still there in all its glory. The difference is, now you’ll be able to dock at certain points and jump out of the “race tuned” space combat to explore internal sections of those massive maze-like structures before returning to the Quarp Jet for some more teleportation-loving, space-bound violence.

Aside from the few screenshots and the gameplay video below, Futurlab is keeping a lid on things for just a little bit longer. We’ll threaten them with a chinese burn or something unless they let us tell you more but in the meantime, mark September 26th on your calendars. That’s when Eurogamer Expo 2013 begins, where Velocity 2X will be playable on the show floor.

  1. Looking forward to this after enjoying the first game on Vita.

  2. Not for PS3? That’s a bit odd given the installbase.

    • I think they have to start making games like this, to slowly shift the customers into their newest consoles.

  3. I must be the only one who couldn’t get into the first game. After about 1hr with it I just wasn’t compelled to play it again. I’m probably gonna give it another chance.
