Beyond: Two Souls Cost £17m To Produce

Quantic Dream’s PS3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls, has a production budget of some €20million (£16.9m), French outlet Le Figaro have claimed.

The production costs for David Cage’s psychological thriller – due out on October 11th – were cited during an interview discussing the visionary director’s latest game, his French roots, and his home-country’s take on the industry.

The figure is surprisingly small when you consider that the game stars Hollywood actors Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe and features a soundtrack scored by award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, previously responsible for such masterpieces as The Lion King, The Dark Knight and Inception.

Quantic Dream’s previous blockbuster, 2010’s Heavy Rain, reportedly cost €16.3m to produce and subsequently went on to gross in excess of €70m for Sony.

  1. Ten of these or one GTA V?

    • Ten of these.

    • 10 William Defoe’s or 1 Trevor Phillips? Trevor wins hands down!

      • You know it mate. Trevor is my favourite video game character ever!

    • How much of GTAs budget is marketing though, 100 million? This figure for Beyond sounds like it’s without marketing costs.

      • Agreed, Kenny. The budget of $260 million for GTA V was for production and marketing. However, I’m guessing only a few million will be thrown behind Beyond for marketing.

        Still… a staggering contrast.

  2. Its basically a film anyway :P. Puts things into perspective when GTA5 cost $260 million. Really stoked for this though more so than GTA :D

  3. Wow, I didn’t realise how profitable Heavy Rain was for Sony! I would have thought niche titles like this wouldn’t sell many copies at all. Fingers crossed Beyond performs well too as it looks great.
