UK Games Charts: 23/09/13 – Grand Theft Auto V Is No.1

Obviously Grand Theft Auto V is at the top of charts (accouting for 89% of the entire week’s sales) and this could have made for one of the most boring and predictable weeks in the UK charts with last week’s other new release, PES 2014, in second position – but it’s not.

What on earth is going on? The Last Of Us has pounced back in to third position having been out of the top twenty for a few weeks and Aliens Colonial Marines has jumped back in to 9th. I can only assume that retailers had plenty of discounted copies of the games stacked near their piles of GTAV and many people thought “Ooh, Aliens for a tenner, worth a punt”.

Last week saw a new PS3 hardware bundle featuring The Last Of Us which may have helped the  game chart.

Away from the weirdness, Rockstar have a strong showing with Grand Theft Auto IV and Max Payne both charting and Farming Simulator 2013 jumps back in at number 18, no doubt helped by the constant reference to the game on last week’s Mock The Week.

  1. I’m guessing TLOU has had a price drop since it’s back in top 10 at number 3.

Good to see Pro Evo up there people recognising the real better footy game.

    • PC gamers getting that bundle with TLOU. Tesco and Game offering that bundle. The price of TLOU still £30+.

    • To be fair though mate, it’s not as if Pro Evo is up against Fifa at the same time. I’m yet to play either demo but I’ve heard PE has been much improved!

Glad to see TLoU doing well, such an amazing game!

      • Yeh true that I guess. GOTY TLOU or GTA or Bioshock?

    • Quick question on Pro Evo, if someone quits on you do you get awarded a win still?

      • Yeh you get the win still

      • Thanks, was hoping it was still like that. Last pro evo I had was a few yrs ago now.

  2. There is that PS3 console bundle as well with GTA V and TLoU. Does that count towards sales? I can imagine a few people picking that up.

    • Yes it does. Hence I mentioned it.

      • Oops, sorry. I must have skimmed over that part. You may spank me.

    • Yup, that’s the one 500 gig superslim PS3 GTA V bundle with TLOU chucked in at a very reasonable sub £200 which is selling very well judging by the various online retailer sales charts.

  3. I wonder if any of the GTA IV sales are mistaken GTA V ones by non-gamer parents/grandparents etc.

    • Can you imagine the disappointment when the under 18’s ask their parents to go and buy it, and purchase the wrong one, lol!

  4. Monday morning, so apologies if I’m being thick, but….. If 89% of sales were GTAV, then other titles wouldn’t have to sell many copies to chart? If 99.99999999999999999% of sales were GTAV and I bought Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Force, then that would be at number 2!

    • Well no, because if you take out GTAV sales then it’s normal weeks chart so everything sold the same as normal. However just because GTA sold fuckloads, it makes the sales of everyting else seem tiny – which they arent, they’re normal sized.

Hope that kind of makes sense.

  5. I would imagine Aliens is charting well at the moment because of GAME’s promotion this week. Went into my local this weekend and they were selling Aliens for £9.99 if you bought it alongside GTA5. It’s not great but, for a tenner, Aliens is well worth a punt in my opinion.

  6. Seems that most games retailers always have plenty of copies of Aliens that they’re still trying to shift. Must be one of the worst flops in relation to stock bought vs sold (at full price)

  7. Has it been announced how many copies of GTA V were sold for each console?
