The Last Guardian Being Re-engineered, Team Is Well Staffed

In the second part of his interview with GamesIndustry International, Shuhei Yoshida has dispelled rumours of The Last Guardian being on hiatus and perhaps said the last word about the game until its official announcement.

While at first he said that he could not talk about which platform it was releasing on, as they weren’t ready to talk about it just yet, Yoshida confirmed a few details:

Well, the game is in development, and it’s well staffed, and Ueda-san is here, working – even though he’s not a Sony employee, he’s dedicated to the product. But we’re not ready to update yet.

When asked if the hiatus was over now, Yoshida shifted the blame to Jack Tretton, saying that “it was a hiatus in terms of releasing new information” and the game has never stopped being developed.

His final word hints at a PlayStation 4 version of the game – which seems obvious now since there hasn’t been a re-announcement sooner:

They’re going through the re-engineering of the game, so the team size is smaller, because it’s more engineering focused right now.

So, there you have it. The Last Guardian is being re-engineered in some way, most likely for PS4. Hopefully that’s all that needs to be said about The Last Guardian for now.

  2. We’ll probably hear something again in another 8 years… something along the lines of it being re-ensineerd for the PS5.

    • I have no idea what ‘re-ensineerd’ means, but we are talking about the future and I’m sure it will mean something in another 8 years other then re-engineered.

      • You sir are a trend setter. I can’t wait until we hear more about re-ensineering in the future.

      • Your spell check must have been on hiatus …

      • It was in the process of being re-ensineered.

  3. Curious why they’ve been taking so long to release it. Either cause of the PS3 or just something else thats holding it back.

  4. ITS ALIIIIIIIVE!

  5. I think TLG can replace GT5 as the most annoyingly delayed awesome game.

    • I think you’re right! Lets hope it doesn’t turn out to be crap, that would truly be a disaster, unless its more crap than Duke Nukem in which case it’ll at least be holding a new title :)

  6. i would take a guess that they hit some hardware limitations on PS3 regarding their vision for this super AI beast etc.. Hopefully since they got hold of the PS4 dev kit, they have been getting it sorted. Release next Xmas is my guess, with a big reveal at E3.

  7. Such a shame if it’s jumping ship to PS4 – considering what they showed running on PS3. But i’ll look forward to it anyway.
