Sony Kicks Off "Since '95" Campaign, Focuses On #4thePlayers Hashtag

Celebrating PlayStation's heritage.

I’ve been with PlayStation since about 1998. That’s not quite the 1995 – the launch of the original console – that the title of this advertising campaign focuses on, but I think that’s understandable since I was two years old when Sony’s first gaming system released.

Now, eighteen years later, Sony are celebrating the countdown to the launch of the PS4 with a look at their heritage, over on a dedicated section of PlayStation.com whether you’ve been here since 1995 or are just about to enter the world of PlayStation with their fourth home console.

The first part of this is a film that spans the almost twenty years of PlayStation, which you can see below. Hopefully this will resonate with you – that seems to be the idea – and you’ll get a twinge of nostalgia as you watch. Oh, and we’re told that you should keep an eye on the order that the PlayStation symbols appear in, for your chance to win a PS4 over on the official Since ’95 site.

This follows the very successful twitter campaign back in February, where #PlayStationMemories trended all day before the PS4 announcement. That’s just one moment in PlayStation’s history, and there will be many more to come.

What do you think of this unique approach to advertising? Have you been with PlayStation since 1995?

Love the TV choices. Remember playing on those crappy tv’s. Now everyone has massive flat screens. Kids don’t know how lucky they have it!

Definitely! Loved the Feisar sticker, though. :D
Great AD. I was 7 when the PS1 launched. Not sure when I got mine but I’m guessing 1-3 years after that. So many fond memories.

I was in day one on PS1 with wipeout, and to this day hearing The Chemical Brothers – Chemical beats takes me right back like it was yesterday! Hoping eventually there will be a PS4 Wipeout. It just won’t be the same without it….

I joined the Playstation clan in ’98 too at the grand old age of 8! Been with them ever since. Great video, loved the changes in the room as it progresses!

I loved the different posters etc on the wall, and the way London developed, thought it was very clever.

That’s pretty well done, Sonys new marketing is actually continually good now.

Nice to see the old “Spiderman” PS3 logo get an airing.

Yeah, shame that branding didn’t stick, I liked it. Great ad, though its a bit weird how no one got any older. Me and my sister got our beautiful GreyStation in 1998, Spyro and Music got played to death, good times.

Impressed to see the move controller on the side next to the PS3. Nice to know it’s not been completely forgotten by Sony…

Still waiting for a campaign that beats the “Conquered Worlds” Double Life campaign. Loved that ad.
