Blizzard Announces World Of Warcraft: Warlords Of Draenor

A brave new world.

At this year’s Blizzcon, World of Wacraft creator, Blizzard, confirmed a fifth expansion for its popular MMORPG.

Entitled “Warlords Of Draenor” this latest add-on throws a  bit of history into the mix, allowing players to jump back in time and relive the ancient battle between Orc and Draenei.

In terms of WoW lore, this conflict (also referred to as “The Shattering”) is fairly significant, having been a focal points for several tie-in novels. In Warlords of Draenor you will encounter a number of iconic characters from both sides including Durotan, Velen, and Grommash.

Draenor will be open for exploration, offering a spread of new locales to visit. Of course, this means a wealth of new quests and NPCs will also be on hand, bumping the current level cap from 90 to 100.

For those wanting to experiment with new characters, the expansion also offers the option for players to boost immediately to level 90. It’s a cool feature though one mainly targeted at WoW veterans.

Sadly, unlike previous add-ons, there are no new classes or races to play as. Instead, Warlords of Draenor dishes up a slew of new features, including Garrisons, an improved UI, and refined character models. Garrisons are essentially upgrade-able settlements with their own cache of quests and mechanics, supporting players’ war efforts in Draenor.

Blizzard has yet to confirm a release date for the expansion.

This will be the first WoW expansion I’ve not played since vanilla. For the people harping on about how amazing vanilla was, and how crap the game is now – I totally disagree. WoW is in the best state its been in for years imo – reason I stopped playing was simply time.

Spending 4 nights a week “hard core” raiding just became too much for me, making the decision to switch back to console gaming is one I don’t regret, so easy to pick up and play with consoles which is why I cannot wait for the PS4 and all that has to offer.

I do think that the expansion is a bit underwhelming compared to previous (only from what I’ve read) specifically the whole no new race, professions, classes etc – bit of a shame – but they are focusing on getting people back into the game specifically with the free level 90 per account (very easy for people to buy a 2nd copy of the game and then migrate the 90 across to get an extra one).

I’ll be too busy with my PS4 (+ I got rid of my account /grin) but I’m sure there’s many more years left in WoW yet. With the addition of Flex raiding they are *trying* to cater for everyone, but its not yet fully perfected imo.
