Minecraft Launching On PS3 This Week

Minecraft is one of the biggest success stories in terms of gaming, with a small team managing to create a title that has been enjoyed by millions on PC and Xbox 360. Mojang had announced earlier this year that the game would be released on the PS3, PS4 and Vita. Now it has been confirmed the PS3 version is launching on the 18th of December.

The PS3 version will include everything that the Xbox 360 version of the game has and both versions will be developed simultaneously. DLC for Minecraft PS3 will follow soon after launch, though no Sony specific packs have been confirmed. It is also unknown if the PS3 version will have compatibility with the Vita and PS4 versions with, for example, cross saves.

The Vita and PS4 Minecraft release dates are still unknown and news on those won’t be released until 2014.

  1. Really looking forward to the Vita version – it’s potentially a killer app for that platform.

  2. Oooohhh, must resist and hang on for the PS4 version, though I’ll probably get it on the Vista as well. a Cross buy would be awesome for this (and cross saves!)

  3. Please be cross buy, please be cross buy…….

  4. Still not sure I really “get” Minecraft….

    • Yeah I’m sitting right beside you in that boat. I just can’t see what all the fuss is about.

  5. Is it a us eu or both release?

  6. so now i get to buy it for a third time. ^_^

and a fourth probably when the Vita version is released.

  7. I’ll wait for the PS4/Vita versions.

  8. What a complete cock up this was, releasing the PS3 version first and not telling whether or not it’ll be cross-buy title. I reckon each console will be it’s own outright paid-for version so it’s a no-go area until more details are released.

Shame, I was really looking forward to Minecraft on the PS4!

  9. Think I’ll wait for a ps4 or vita version. I was going to wait for terraria on but enjoyed it on the big screen.

  10. That’s great news as my wee nephew has been asking me every week for ages about when it’ll be released on PS3. It’ll also give me an excuse to have a bash on it again.
