Retailers List A “Sony Gold Wireless” PS4 Headset That’s Not Really Gold

There’s a lack of options if you want a wireless PlayStation 4 headset. Sony hasn’t even patched in support for its own Pulse ear-warmers yet so unless you had the luck or foresight to buy a wireless headset that worked via a USB dongle, you’re strapped for options.

That might be about to change. Best Buy (and Play-asia as well as a couple of other more surprising places) have listed a new wireless headset they’re calling the “Sony Gold Wireless.” Best Buy says it’s stereo while Play-asia lists it as a full 7.1 surround sound unit, which sounds much more attractive for the healthy price they’re listing it at – $129.99. It looks very much like it’s the headset that was leaked during manufacture last month.

I’m not sure why they’re calling it “Gold” when all the images show a rather fetching blue and black colour scheme. This “Gold” headset is close in appearance to the existing PlayStation Pulse but very similar to the PlayStation Stereo Headset too.

All retailers are out of stock, as you’d imagine for a product that hasn’t been announced yet, but they all list it for January or February so we should probably expect to hear something soon. It’s also worth noting that, if this is to launch in February, there’s a strong possibility that the new firmware would need to come beforehand in order for it to work. That’ll be nice.

  1. Damn, I paid £69 for my previous 7.1 PlayStation headset but would be keen to buy this, especially as it works with Vita too (going by the box)!

  2. Holy shit they look ugly. Hope there will be support for my Pulse Elite headset.

  3. That ‘box’ graphic looks highly suspect to me… The ‘For PS3, PS4 and Vita’ text doesn’t even look like it’s in a Sony font…

    • I concur, the fact it features a Gold trophy too is a bit odd.

      • The box doesn’t feel real to me either, but there’s enough weight to everything els that I’d be inclined to say the headset is real… just that the box will look better.

      • Indeed, the box certainly looks a bit ropey.

      • I thought it looked a bit cardboardy.
On a more serious note, what makes me doubt that’s the official box is the fact that I would of thought Sony designers would make the blue light streamy thing travel through the middle of the headphones.

  4. Does that have a mic? I’ve been holding off getting a headset in the hopes that a new one comes out along with the new firmware.

    • The articles I’ve seen state that it has the hidden noise cancelling mic similar to the pulse elite

  5. I’ve yet to hear a single other player online since launch, so I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to buy these.

    • It’s not just me then, I played Backlight for a few hours the other night and all I heard was heavy breathing!

    • Same hear :P Seriously though i thought the earphone they boxed with the PS4 was broke as i couldn’t hear a word from anyone on Killzone SF multiplayer!

  6. I got lucky with my old Astro but it’s a pitty I have no one to talk to!

    • I have the same issue, need to sign myself up for some meets!

    • One thing I had to check with my A50s was that it was fine for PS4 usage.

Lovely headset for Christmas. Just need a PS4 now. *throws toys out of cot* :-P

  7. So might we be seeing official Sony peripherals marketed using the trophy metals from now on? The previously mentioned Turtle Beach-made headphones being the “Sony Platinum Wireless Headset” perhaps? That could make sense.

  8. I wonder if it gives you a gold trophy for plugging them in..?

  9. My Turtle Beach PX5’s work really well with my PS4 – bloody good job too, they cost enough!!

    • I have the PX5 also. How did you get yours to work on ps4?

      • Just plugged it in the USB. I’m also using the digital in and out so I can use my surround sound. I don’t think I’ve changed any settings but I’ll check when I get home and let you know.

  10. I got a nice playstation official stereo headset the other day for £50 from game, marked down for £100 works fantastic
