SEGA has just announced the existence of Sonic Boom for the Wii U and 3DS, and with the former being developed by Big Red Button studios which is made of former Naughty Dog designers. The latter version of the game will be developed Sanzaru Games, who have experience with the Sly Cooper titles. The trailer above shows gameplay footage and it looks like there will be a quite few platform sections thrown in with the standard sprinting of Sonic.

The character models also seem to have had a few changes with Knuckles looking like he has been down the gym bulking up to carry the strength of Sonic fans’ hopes.  A new gameplay mechanic is also present with a tether now part of Sonic’s arsenal. SEGA has also released a preview of the Sonic TV show, which is also called Sonic Boom and will take part after the events of the game.

There’s no release date available for Sonic Boom but we’ll be sure to pass it on to you when we find out.

  1. What is this? They made Sonic look awful and now they’ve shat all over my childhood memories of Knuckles. Bastards.

    • They need to alter the look of knuckles.

  2. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?!

  3. I’m just going to pretend that I didn’t see that and carry on disregarding all post 16bit Sonic games.

  4. I see sonic has robbed Nathan Drake’s scarf.

  5. Sonic Boom, Sonic Boom saving Sonic Team from disaster.. well least the game looks promising for once.
