Rumour: PlayStation VR Headset Revealed Next Month

TechRadar have a tipster who has said that the much rumoured PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset will be revealed at next month’s GDC2014 in San Francisco,

The inside source has spent some time with the new tech and has said, “The quality and resolution are really, really good. People will definitely be impressed with what Sony’s built”.

Rumours of the headset have been floating around for over a year, starting with a tweet from Shuhei Yoshida himself.

Later on it was rumoured that Drive Club (remember that?) would be supporting the tech and a VR version of Super Stardust was also being made.

Fact of the day: The oldies amongst you will remember the 1992 VR film, The Lawnmower Man. What you may not know is that the CGI for the film was created by American developer Angel Studios – who later became Rockstar San Diego.

  1. As long as it’s easier to wear than my old jaguar VR helmet then I’m sure interested :)

  2. As soon as the porn industry “jump” on board, this’ll take off.
Pornhub were first on PS4 I can see them supporting this.
As a married man, naturally I’ll be watching this with interest.

    • I can see that ending badly. Put a VR headset on so you can’t see what’s going on around you? And then watch some porn?

Someone’s going to walk in on you, aren’t they? And you won’t notice.

Unless you live on your own (which obviously doesn’t apply in your case, as a married man – well, I’m guessing it doesn’t apply). In which case, why the need to view porn secretively?

And it’d be expensive electronic equipment in the vicinity of “fluids”. Never a good plan.

      • Even people who watch porn with their other half also watch porn on their own. Especially if they want to watch something nasty that their partners not into. Kitch is right, when they start making VR porn loads of people will want it. They’ll just have to plan their wanking and lock their doors.

  3. Call me naive, but I’m keen on VR. I can’t be bothered to mess around with OR and a ‘works out of the box’ PS4 solution would suit me fine. Price it at sub-£250 and give me VR versions of Wipeout zone mode and updates of Colony Wars and G-Police, maybe see if they can get Elite: Dangerous to support it.

People make a big deal of the performance constraints and how PC is the only true path to VR, but it’s too soon to count Sony out yet, at least let them announce it before discounting it!

  4. Interesting to see EG reporting that OR have run out of components for their rift dev kit.

Would be good timing for a Sony announcement!
