Community Round-Up: 15/03/14

Teflon kindly covered for me last week while I had a job interview, but now I’m back and ready to kick ass and round-up news for this week’s Community Round-Up!

CRU Banner - comps plus

On the Competitions front, we’ll begin with the latest event in the Plus Points Challenge: Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition. The main object is to get the highest score on the first mission, although there’s also points up for grabs for who can do the fastest speed run of the same level. You’ve got 2 weeks to perfect your scores as entries close on the 30th of March.

Tony is also organising a FIFA Ultimate Team competition. Nothing yet is finalised, but pop your name down if you’re interested – you have until Wednesday to do so.

CRU Banner - meets COD

Looking at the Meets, McProley is organising a Modern Warfare 3 meet on Thursday at 8pm, and I’m sure there’ll be the usual GT6 meet on Monday and the odd Battlefield or Killzone gathering too.

If you fancy creating your own meet, maybe a game of Titanfall for example, feel free to go ahead and pop it down if you have more than 250 TSA points.

It was very quiet looking at the Previews and Reviews, in fact there were none of the former this week! I’ll write a strongly worded email to Stefan after this, but maybe we could cut him some slack as he did speak to Nate Fox about inFamous Second Sun, and then reviewed one of, if not the biggest game of the year so far: Titanfall. Giving it an 8/10, he said it lays down “the foundations for a series of games with a rich mixture of ideas”. Blair also shared his thoughts about the game.

The other Reviews came from Jim and Dom, in which Jim gave a 3/10 to the woeful Rambo: The Video Game, while Pokémon Link: Battle received a 7/10 from Dom.

Aran was busy this week, firstly with Hawken which featured in Indie Focus, and then looking at Call of Duty: Ghosts for this weeks Matter of Perspective. Jim revisited last year’s BioShock: Infinite in PlayBack, in another of the regular features.

Oceanhorn appeared on Mobile Watch with Blair, who also blogged about how he doesn’t spend much time gaming these days. Maybe he should cut back on trips to HMV?

On now to the Community articles, and this weeks Verdict saw Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag recieve 15 buy it votes and not a single avoid it, while Batman Arkham Origins becomes the new WeView game. The Chronicle then featured discussion about last week’s two high profile leavers; Jack Tretton and Amy Hennig. Watch Dogs also got a look in, while there was of course the usual achievements update.

Stefan stepped in for Lewis in Episode 132 of the Podcast, while What We Played #147 featured Thief, Hawken and Titanfall thanks to Greg.

Let’s quickly jump into the Forums and see what’s been going on:

Well that’s it for this week, you can look forward to a great weekend for spor. There’s the potentially nail-biting conclusion to the 6 Nations and the opening weekend of the F1 Season. I hope you have a good weekend too, and I’ll see you next week – bye!
