Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition Being Developed For Xbox One, But Release Is Unconfirmed

The PlayStation 4 version of Diablo 3 was confirmed ages ago and it was presumed the game would also appear on Xbox One. However, Blizzard has told VideoGamer that the release of the game on Microsoft’s next-gen system is still rather uncertain.

“I don’t know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can’t really comment on what that contract looks like,” explained Diablo 3 lead producer Alex Mayberry. “The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.”

“We have that pipeline worked out,” he continued. “We’ve already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. That’s just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out.”

The release date for the game, which includes the expansion pack Reaper of Souls, is said to be “not far off” as the console team are working in parallel with the PC developers. PC gamers can grab the expansion from tomorrow.

  1. I really, REALLY want the PS4 version. Will TSA set up some meets once this finally gets launched?

    • Count me in, I’d be well up for that!

      • me too, very excited for this game, really really hope its out in the next few weeks

      • And meeeee!

  2. I’m holding out for the PS4 version. I came very close to caving in a buying it on PS3 a couple of weeks back.

  3. Cannot wait for this on PS4. Loved the PS3 version but the PS4 version will be able to handle so much more enemies on screen at once! The Reaper of Souls add on is gonna be great too

  4. really don’t think they’ve done a very job with the marketing for this, it’s strange to be so vague about the release date when it’s supposed to be out imminently. Seems like it could be very popular and theres a lot of hype for it, people may lose interest though and move on to something else (not me) if they don’t hurry up and announce the release date

  5. I’ve been playing the new patch extensively on PC. It’s fantastic. Can’t wait to get to grips with the new act and Crusader class from tomorrow. Providing the servers hold up against the strain….

  6. Just got the Platinum on the PS3 last week after playing it non-stop since November…really want this to come out soon on the PS4!

  7. Played it on the PC when it came out and I wasn’t too fond of it at full price. I might cave in at a very good price just for the coop aspect of the game, though.

    • The game as it is now is night and day compared to what it was at release. I could only stomach it for about 2 weeks at launch. Because of the way gear dropped, you were forced to use the auction house to get gear that would actually make a difference. I thought I’d bought an aRPG, not a trading simulator…

Now it’s all self found or crafted and the item stats are tailored for the class you found/crafted the gear with. When I play now, I get that “I’ll play till I find one more upgrade”, or “I’ll just get to the next check-point”, or “I’ll just get to that boss to see if he drops anything” Next thing I know, it’s 1:30am and I have to be at work for 8 (I’m so very tired)

  8. I played the demo on PS3 and was instantly hooked. I decided though to hold out for the PS4 version and I’m very excited for it.

I have concerns though about this latest announcement for a release on the xboxone. I think we all know that MS have a clause in their contracts which state that multi-platform games can not release on another platform before the stipulated MS platform. As we’re just hearing confirmation now that the xboxone game is in development I’m wondering whether any delay in the xboxone version being ready will impact upon the release for PS4 – I read that both xboxone and PS4 games are in development side-by-side but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are both at the same stage of development.

I read elsewhere that Blizzard stated that the PS4 version will be out ‘later this year’ which sounds ominously like an autumn or winter release to me.

    • thats a very very good point mate, I was worrying about that aswell. If that actually happens I’ll boycott the game and just move on to something else- although I doubt it’ll end up being delayed because of xbox..at least I hope not
