Activision has released a trailer of sorts for this year’s Call of Duty, which is a documentary style video focusing on Private Military Contractors. There’s no gameplay footage, but some very big hints towards the themes and tone of the next game.
“In the next Call of Duty, the world’s most powerful military is not a country, it’s a corporation” begins the video.
It has some serious Metal Gear tones, but the PMCs angle is quite a good one to take. It sounds as though those private corporations will rise in the game, taking over country militaries, and you’ll see the struggle from both sides.
There will be a full reveal in two days and fifteen hours from now. That’s Sunday morning at 10AM BST. We’ll find exactly what it’s all about then. It’s said to be “next-gen first”, which means it will be developed with PS4 and Xbox One is mind, but come to other consoles too.

I’m feeling some big changes in the overall formula for this one. They tweeted an image earlier saying “a new era arrives” which made me think (hope) there was going to be a big shake up.
I’m going to guess massive, controllable mechs to rival titanfall.

I wonder how the devs will prove themselves with this title, will they dare to be different or merely prove they can mimic the regular formula?

Judging by Gameinformer’s cover story picture (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/05/01/exclusive-call-of-duty-screen-june-cover.aspx) to me it looks like it’s set in the near future, which I really don’t like the sound of. I avoided Blops 2, and can see myself doing the same if it goes to OTT with gadgets and weapons.
I’m am curious to see what Sledgehammer can do though, so I won’t pass judgement just yet…
