The Last Of Us Remastered Requires At Least 50GB Of Space

A few lucky gamers have got their hands on a copy of The Last of Us Remastered and posted a picture of the back of the pack which shows the game requires a whopping 50gb “minimum” for the install file.

That’s 1/10th of the whole PS4 hard drive and almost double the size of the PlayStation 3 download version of the game which clocked in at 26gb.

Naughty Dog have also confirmed the game runs at a steady 60fps as some people were worried the frame rate may wander, hence the inclusion to lock the game to 30fps.

Community strategist Arne Meyer explained to Videogamer that he had “a long debate with our programmers about what it means to lock at 60fps, and that concept doesn’t exist as much as locking it at 30fps or some other frame rates. On the technical side, I think what we’ve been able to do with achieve at 60fps is as good or better than any other game that says that they’re at 60fps.”

Naughty Dog have also said they are targeting 1080p 60fps for Uncharted 4, “I think that’s what we want to push for with anything we’re doing on this generation,” said Arne.

“That’s sort of the mandate from when we were building the PS4 engine. Let’s see if we can do this and hit it. We hit it with The Last of Us Remastered, so why not stick with this?”

  1. Oof, that’s a bit of a whopper! If games continue to be similarly large I am definitely going to require a new, larger hard drive in the near future.

Just out of curiosity, what’s the best price for a 1TB HDD?

  2. Any reason why it’s so huge? I can’t imagine it’s just down to the higher res textures and models. Wasn’t Titanfall massive because of uncompressed audio? Could that be why?

    • Its because of the pre rendered cutscenes, which already took up a huge amount of space on PS3, had to be doubled in resolution and framerate. The audio was also improved. Naughty Dog have said they’re going for in engine cutscenes from now on, so UC4 will be smaller.

  3. I’ve only got 22gb left :(, best get deleting

  4. Sony needs to get external drive support stat. I’ve got 1TB, but with these sizes that’s not a lot.

The biggest you can fit is still 1.5 TB, but I’d rather keep my fast hybrid in and expand upon it.

I love how my Xbox has 500GB internal and 1TB external.

  5. Original on ps3 was 26GB plus Left Behind dlc was 5GB so it’s not too bad.

Just delete the old installs of the games you’re not playing or don’t have anymore. It only takes seconds/minutes to install games on the ps4 anyway (if you ever wanted to re-play those games again).

  6. I’m assuming deleting installation files on the PS4 doesn’t delete additional update files? I’d rather just have to reinstall rather than redownload my update files.

But as JR. said, it’s not too bad just reinstalling the games when you want to play them. After all the effort Cerny and the engineers went to to get fast installs, I might as well take advantage of it haha.

    • I deleted my friends copy of cod Ghosts and when he brought it back round, we had to redownload the update.

  7. Pre ordered. August 1st needs to hurry the eff up!

  8. Thats a sizeable chunk luckily still got plenty of space on the 1TB,375GB to be exact thats with 40 games and dlc and updates.
