Community Round-Up: 26/07/14

Service resumes as usual this weekend, after last week’s swapsies agreement with Teflon. I’ve also managed to get everything back online and have been enjoying the Commonwealth Games, although I was disappointed the Queen didn’t jump out with a parachute when the Red Arrows did their fly-by!

Anyway, time for a recap of TSA over the past seven days in this week’s Community Round-Up!

TSA’s FIFA World Cup Competition wrapped up earlier in the week, with YungJones taking the crown, followed closely by PILLAI7, XBLakie_ChanX and LegendishThingy. Congratulations to all of them, as it was a fierce competition, and I’m sure it won’t be long until we see another FIFA related competition with the new game only a few months away.

CRU Banner - meets gt5

On the meet front, this week we will have GT6 on Monday, maybe some RDR on Wednesday, and Friday night will see the usual BF4 meet. [Last night saw a whopping 8 players show up, which was enough for two squads and a bundle of laughs – Tef]

Remember, you can always add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

Looking at the Previews, Stefan had a busy week as usual, beginning with some reflection on Destiny’s Beta from the team as a whole, which everyone seems to be talking about right now. Pillars of Eternity, which almost quadrupled its fundraising goal on Kickstarter, certainly looks like a brilliant isometric, party-based RPG that is coming to PC later this year, while Lords of the Fallen sounds devilishly hard.

Lastly, Stefan looked at the resurrected MX vs. ATV Supercross, while Matt when hands on with The Evil Within, a survival horror game headed up by Shinji Mikami from the Resident Evil series.

Turning our attention to the Reviews, Dom looked at Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga, which he describes as “one of the few games that actually lives up to the ‘PS2 Classic’ moniker”, and worthy of a 7/10.

Blair calls The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 4 – Amid The Ruins one of “episodic gaming’s finest shows”, although it still doesn’t quite live up to the brilliance of the first season, as Matt shared his thoughts for Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, which he thinks deserves to be called much more than just a ‘re-skinned game’, in his scoreless review.

Looking at the regular features, Aran used Matter of Perspective to look at Battleship, while PlayBack saw Jim return to Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. We’ve also began our mid-year recap of TSA’s Ones to Watch 2014, having completed reviews of the yearly franchises, cross-platform games, Ubisoft’s offerings and a selection of Indie games.

Following the Grand Final of The International 2014, Jim wrote about the eSports boom and also offered some handy tips for newcomers to Dota 2, which is notoriously hard to master, but also incredibly rewarding.

Thief had a mixed WeView Verdict, as Octodad: Deadliest Catch is the new game waiting for your comments. Meanwhile on the Chronicle, I looked at The Last of Us Remastered, Xbox One’s June sales and June’s NPD results in Hot Topics.

Ending in the way we usually do, Episode 148 of the Podcast is ready for your listening, while What We Played #166 featured Destiny, Wolfenstein and Borderlands.

A few new threads have popped up in the Forums this week, which is great to see!

And that’s your Round Up for this weekend, have a good week and I’ll see you next time – bye!

  3. As a slight addendum to the above, Friday actually saw 9 players enter the battlefield, but as parties are limited to 8, chucknorrislives unfortunately had a somewhat disjointed experience. They still managed to join us I noticed, but I felt a bit bad as they had actually signed up.

Still, mucho funnage was had by everyone I could actually speak to & hopefully chucknorrislives did too!
