Tequila Works: Rime Won't Feature Any Combat But Won't Be Light On Action

See the world through the eyes of a child.

Rime was one of the many featured attractions at Sony’s 2014 Gamescom conference, and now thanks to Tequila Works’ very charismatic CEO and Creative Director, Raúl Rubio Munárriz, and a recent interview he did with PlayStation Access, we know a little bit more about what the game will entail.

Raul begins by acknowledging the expectations that have been thrust upon the game with comparisons to Ico, Journey, and Windwaker, but insisted that it’s their own vision and is something they’ve wanted to make for a long time.

He went on to note that the game is open world, with a heavy emphasis on exploration and discovery. He also stated that while there is no shortage of action in Rime, there is no actual combat, and since you’ll be playing as a child, they want drive home just how fragile you are, particularly at the beginning of the game.

There’s no release date from Rime just yet but hopefully we’ll be hearing something about that very soon.

I like how mysterious exploration has become a genre, I dunno how many games out there fall into the category but the few I know about are fascinating. I’m really enjoying Proteus, loved Journey and adored Ico so the idea of a similar game, but open world without combat, is fantastic. I know it won’t be to everyone’s taste but it’s great that those who are a more Indiana Jones than John Rambo have got stuff to look forward to.

Agreed. It’s lovely to see gaming maturing and showing us how we don’t need to stove people’s heads in with fire extinguishers all of the time. Um… yes. That. :-)

As an aside, Divinity: Original Sin (stunning RPG on the PC) has shown. Exploration can make up a fair ol’ chunk of the game and be absolutely wonderful at the same time. Other RPGs take note.
