UK Charts 01/09/14: Metro Redux Rises To The Top

As we head into September, the game releases are definitely starting to pick up. There’s still quite a lot of re-releases mind, including a bargain package full of Metro goodness and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare finally making its way to PS4.

It’s quite telling why we see so many remakes when the top three games are re-releases, with the latest – Metro Redux – grabbing the top spot, followed by Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition and The Last of Us: Remastered in second and third places respectively. You can see the full top 20 below.

  1. I’d agree – it is quite telling re: the top spots.

The whole thing reminds me of the initial PS3 release with an absolute dearth of titles post-release for the first year and then boom! It’s a shame there’s not (m)any more new IPs but with the quality/expectations for AAA titles, not really surprising – hence indy gaming has stepped up.

Personally, I’ve no problems with indy titles – the Vita is great in this respect – but more triple A titles on both the Vita (which was bought in anticipation for) & PS4 would be welcome and encourage me to finally take the step.

    • Sorry “- hence indy gaming & remakes have stepped up.”

  2. I bought Metro Redux and have to say, I’m not overly impressed so far. I’ve only played 2033 so far and that’s my first time playing the Metro series but it just isn’t doing it for me.

Might be that it’s slightly dated though, not sure. One thing for sure though is there is next to variety in the enemies, especially the monseters. They are just a bit dull. The story seems so weak and disjointed. Half the time you have no idea what you’re supposed to do next. I think that’s partly down to me not hearing certain conversations but I’m a wanderer so don’t always follow the beaten track.

Take a certain section in a tunnel (great descrition there!!). You have to find exposives and place them in two different sections. Now I played that twice and both times nobody even hinted that this was the case. Poor design like that just irritates me.

Hopefully once I finish it, Last Light will be a more enjoyable experience.

    • “no variety” that should say.

    • wow!
i have played both on ps3 and can quite happily say that the Redux is a vast improvement.not just graphically but overall, it plays a hell of a lot smoother.
you might have a bit more joy with last light, its a bit more grown up.reminds me of half life.
not surprised its top of the charts, can be picked up for reasonable prices and its could just be people wanting a next(ish) gen fix.

    • Thank you, I thought I was the only person who isn’t impressed with Metro Redux so far.
I’ve only played about 2hrs so far as it’s boring the pants off me. I don’t think a lot to the character models, speech or story for that matter at all.
Whats more annoying is hearing the children talk in the tunnels… I could be wrong here but I’m sure its just a women who sounds like she’s in her 40s or 50s trying to talk in a kids voice, sounds awful!
Maybe I’m being harsh here too but the animation of the monster creature type things reminds me of a PS2 game.
I’ll give it another go tonight but my overall impression of the game so far is not too good but it looks like just us who thinks this at the moment as critic and user scores all seem to average 8/9-10. I can’t understand it.

      • Yeh I’m spot on with you there. I will say it gets a bit more interesting later on but still slightly monotonous.

I also don’t get the love for the graphics. They aren’t bad but in comparison to games like Killzone and, dare I say it, Call of Duty, I haven’t seen anything that really wows me. Far too dark and lacking in colour.

      • I don’t even know whether I’ll bother booting it back up. I might wait ’til I’ve got a mate round and let them play it instead.
It’s one of the 1st games where I thought, what the heck, I’ll download it instead of buying the discs and as a result, I can’t even give it to someone else… £30 well spent. lol

  3. I guess this is why neither console was made backwards compatible – they knew we’d happily buy the games again.

Ps Titanfall back in the top 10 as I predicted, Titan rises!

  4. Diablo 3 and PVZ for me after I finish Metro Redux. The games, have cometh at last.

I’m absolutely loving Metro 2033; the atmosphere feels right and the graphics are stunning. You have to play this game slow I’ve learned, to pick up on dialogue and take in the detail. I took some screenshots whilst playing and they came out just like the bullshots you see publishers release to promote their games. Crazy.

  5. I just went for Metro 2033 as i played Last Light on PS3. For 20 euros i won’t really complain but the poor signposting does make for some frustratingly challenging sections. Also it would have been nice if the conversations weren’t proximity-triggered, so you could trigger and listen to each one without two others drowning it out.
