Free Multiplayer Gaming For PS4 Owners This Weekend

Sony have announced that multiplayer gaming will be available to all PlayStation 4 owners this weekend, even if they do not subscribe to PlayStation Plus.

Starting 26th September at 8.00am BST/9.00am CET and for one weekend only, we are opening the gates to the world of online play, allowing everyone to challenge their friends and fellow gamers from around the globe in epic online battles.

The free weekend coincides with the launch of FIFA 15, one of the biggest online games on the network.

  1. Cool. Might try get some MP trophies then!

  2. So do all Plus subscribers get an additional weekend added to their sub then? As otherwise, those that subscribe are effectively paying for a weekend of gaming that others are getting for free.

    • As a plus subscriber I really dont mind. It’s only one weekend.

    • Really>? Are you that selfish and entitled?

      • Wow, it was just a question. You don’t ask, you don’t know.

        I won’t bother in future.

      • “those that subscribe are effectively paying for a weekend of gaming that others are getting for free.”

No they aren’t, Sony are paying for it because they are giving away the service for free.

Hence you are not entitled for a refund, you are not losing anything.

        Hope that answers your question.

      • Ok, so there are a couple of points I feel I want to address here.

You might note from my initial question that at no stage did I actually ask for a refund or any kind of compensation, or even mention it for that matter (other than querying a couple of days being added). What would I do with the meagre amount it would equate to anyway? I simply wondered if this was similar to the sort of ‘deal’ that is offered to people that aren’t currently customers of a business rather than those who are. Like when services (say broadband for example) are offered at a discount rate, but that offer doesn’t apply to the current customer base.

You might also notice that at no point did I state that I was asking for myself, but that it was in fact more of a general sweeping question to add some clarity to the initial article. Current Plus subscribers weren’t actually mentioned at all in the article (other than a passing mention in “multiplayer gaming will be available to all PlayStation 4 owners this weekend, even if they do not subscribe to PlayStation Plus”), so I wanted to ask whether anything would apply to them. It doesn’t, that’s fine.

I would also like to add that just because “Sony are paying for it because they are giving away the service for free” doesn’t actually change the situation, with my point being that Plus subscribers have still paid for something that others are now getting for free (albeit for a very time limited period). Putting a different slant on it doesn’t actually make it different.

On a final note, I personally expect a little more from a news editor of this site than to just go on the offensive & call people “selfish” & “entitled” when all they are doing is searching for a bit of clarity where it doesn’t presently exist. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am neither of those things & I feel it’s a little unfair to label me as such for simply asking a question.

Ok, so that was a few points rather than a couple, but still…

  3. I only had a quick glance at the headline,i thought it said “Free game this weekend for PS4 owners”,i’m gutted now i know it’s not.Stupid eyes.

    • Me too, must be some sort of freebie dyslexia :) It’s a good offer though, one Sony should repeat a few times a year to get peoples juices flowing and maybe a few more Plus subscribers.

      • “Freebie dyslexia” i like it.I agree Sony should offer this a few times a year and maybe throw a free game in to try for the weekend something off the IGC that way they don’t spend money and those that already have ps plus don’t miss out.I know it’s similar to what Microsoft do but they do something similar to ps plus with games for gold.

  4. I hope the extra traffic doesn’t make the PSN fall over, I need my destiny session. Also that lizardskank bunch seem to be threatening more attacks, this news might tempt them. They should be lined up and shot imo

  5. @ Forrest

I think the reaction to your comment should be seen in the light of the usual whining the follows every news article about something being giving for free or something that requires payment.

To be fair, it does sound a bit whiny when you complain about this subject, and Tuffcub’s answer was correct.

  6. nice if you haven’t got plus, i bought a years sub when i got my PS4 though so, i don’t need it.

it can only be good for Sony if it prompts more people to get a plus sub.

must be effective because ms seem to have free mulitplayer weekends every so often.
