PS4 Firmware Update 2.0 Will Go Live On October 28th

Sony has dated firmware update 2.0 for the PlayStation 4, which will bring themes, Youtube uploading and USB music playback to the system, with the release penned for October 28th which is Tuesday. The news has come via PlayStation Europe’s Twitter feed and you can see the post below.

Firmware 2.0 has been a long time coming, and you can read about the features that it will include here and here. There are requested items missing from this update, including DLNA support and folders to group things together. Hopefully we’ll see those implemented not so far in the future.

Here’s two fun facts about the word Masamune courtesy of former TSA writer Lee Cash. First, Masamune is a swordsmith who is considered to be Japan’s greatest ever in that field of expertise. Second, in an homage to the famed swordsmith Sephiroth’s sword also goes by that name in FFVII.

  1. Now that uploading straight to YouTube is almost here I might start to upload some gameplay videos.

    • That right there is a major leap forward. Totally cutting out the middle man of several compression procedures using capture cards etc. with direct upload to YouTube is an awesome addition to the firmware. Obviously it’ll lack quality editing features but still a big leap forwards!
