Driveclub Update: “More Servers Coming Online”

Time for another update on the farce known as Driveclub and there is little more to report other than improvements are still being made and there is no sign of the PlayStation Plus version. Hopefully we will have some better news next week.

There are more servers coming online and there will be a significant server update to improve performance in the next 24 hours. We will also be running performance diagnostics around this update, but there shouldn’t be much disruption or downtime.

This server update will improve online performance across the game and it also brings specific improvements for multiplayer racing and leaderboard updates.

More improvements will follow as we make progress on Sunday and Monday, but we still have more work to do to get everything back on track before we can give you any bigger or better news. We will keep you up to speed.

As always we appreciate your feedback about online play as it improves and about your time with the game in general, so please keep sharing with us.

  1. Once they sort out the servers, the next thing they need to do is come up with some way to punish those who make no effort to brake at all on corners. I mean everyone gets a bit over confident at time, but it’s absolutely ridiculous. Playing last night was particularly annoying, especially to have one of these “non-brakers” to accuse me of spinning him out as he tried to recover from yet another battering ram attempt at making it around a corner seconds after using me as a crash barrier to make it around the last corner.

    • Ah yes, those people who haven’t heard of decelerating. It happens in many a racing game these days unfortunately, along with the mystery of steering. I don’t know whether there will ever be a solution short of giving players a credibility rating governed by number of incidents. To be honest, incident detection itself is still hugely inaccurate these days.

    • I’ve not found Driveclub too bad so far to be fair. A couple of numpties occasionally but nothing as bad as the ‘i can’t win so i’m going to purposefully wipe people out’ attitude that i was expecting.

I have had the odd car magically appear out of thin air in front of me though, but i guess that’s server related.

      • Complete opposite for me, happens nearly every time. Was doing team racing yesterday, and was first for a decent amount of time. Until the person who was second – who was on the same team as me – purposely wipes me off course. Sending us both towards the end of the pack. I swear some people go into team racing not realising that it’s team racing.

  2. Not really a farce, do you guys at TSA even have a little sense of scale? On the battlefield 4 scale (that being a 10), this is like a 2..

    Drama queens, or sensationalist blogging…

    • I think you’re on to something.

    • The writer of this article is Tuffcub. That should explain it.

      • I’m lost now. What are you implying about TC?

      • Nothing. I just think given TC’s previous tone of writing (generally outspoken, opinionated, playful) this is to be expected. It’s not being a drama queen or sensationalising an issue as Blighty says, it’s just one guy having an opinion (albeit maybe with a dash of self awareness or sarcasm, who knows).

    • I think you’re on something.

    • What problems?

    • The launch of DriveClub has definitely been farcical. Sure, Battlefield 4 was an absolute joke but that doesn’t stop DriveClub’s launch from being anything other than terrible.

    • Are you talking about this years release of Drive club or last years? The ps plus release or the retail disk?Perhaps the upgrade to the version which doesn’t exist in the first place?
You’re lucky Tsa are covering it at all as most have just forgotten it even exists. They probably should just of aimed at a decent split screen mode.

  3. I bought PS plus upgrade but apart from a couple of hours have been leaving this until it’s stable, but seriously this is getting ridiculous. This game – given all the focus on online and social aspects – should be working by now. The game was delayed by a year to fix the social online aspect and it has had to be disabled for weeks on launch?

Also, the game – despite the delay – has launched without other features such as dynamic weather. Given the work that is having to be done to get the online working you would imagine that will also be delayed.

Further still – this game has a rolling programme of free and paid for DLC which is supposed to start in a couple of weeks – is that now going to be delayed?

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/09/10/driveclub-free-dlc-schedule-detailed/

    • They’ve got until the end of November to release the first DLC, as the detailed schedule doesn’t state when in the month it’s released, so there’s plenty time to stick to it without any delays…….for now!

    • It’s been stable for me all last week. I had one disconnect, but aside from that, everything that was supposed to be working was working.

It’s a slow news week sadly, so non-news get promoted to news. Watch the Driveclub server problems news melt away next week when Firmware 2.0 stories flood TSA.

I actually long for the day (in all forms of media), when if there is no news, they just say so. Today there is no news, instead, here is Tom and Jerry…

      • A press release update on one of the PS4’s biggest games so far and they’re supposed to ignore it?

      • Please shut up and go away.

      • Facebook post != press release

        Sigh…

      • Stable? Key parts of the game still don’t work. Challenges don’t work, the game disconnects from the servers randomly and forget about the leaderboards reflecting reality, accepting your times or displaying your friends.

It’s not non-news, it’s embarrassing for Sony and should be reported… and I’m a PS guy through and through.

      • Did it say anywhere above it’s a press release? No. As said before, shut up.

  4. I really find it surprising that Evolution or even Sony hadn’t prepared so well for the online features. Its just like Simcity and Diablo 3 although they were always online.

  5. Well.. Servers are better which is great BUT!! the mini average MPH challenges have gone insane, Apparently my Audi can’t beat the peeople who have somehow set averages of 4,000 mph, 8,000 mph and the latest winner who had an average speed of 16,000 mph.

I really hope Evolution manage to fix this nonsense quickly as I need some kind of jet powered car otherwise.

    • I’ve seen ridiculously high average speed challenges to but then today i get a drift challange with a score of 6 and a corner challenge of 13mph.

      Bonkers

  6. This, and the leaderboards are still a complete mess.

$10 says they have to wipe all the online stats and start again. Everything seems corrupt.

  7. Event though this has indeed been a bit of a farce it is still a great racing game. I can’t wait to see how much better it’s going to get once it is completely up and running without any problems.

  8. So still no word on the PS plus version?

Was looking forward to giving it a test drive (see what I did there?) to see if I enjoyed it before dropping any green queens on the full thing.
