Destiny’s First Expansion Revealed, Launching On December 9th

The Dark Below, Destiny’s first fully-fledged expansion, will be available to download on December 9th. The expansion features new weapons and gear, as well as new story, co-operative, and multiplayer activities, with some exclusive content for PlayStation players.

The full list of content is as follows:

Find Eris in the Tower to take on special quests that include three new missions where you will increase your Light and earn new rewards

  • Three new competitive multiplayer arenas
    • Pantheon – set deep within the Black Garden in an ancient Vex temple that features Vex-designed landscapes and tight corridors
    • Skyshock – an old interplanetary defence array that offers both vehicle and infantry engagements
    • The Cauldron – an abandoned Hive ritual site that offers close-quarter combat
  • New six-player Raid, Crota’s End, set deep within the depths of the Hellmouth
  • PlayStation platforms will also get access to an exclusive co-operative Strike, The Undying Mind and an exotic weapon, and more (timed exclusive until at least Autumn 2015)

  1. Nice that they’re raising the level cap.

Just a shame that the game has decided I don’t need any raid armour, even though I’ve beaten it 10+ times now…..

Got shards out the wazoo though.

    • Some of the gang I go raiding with have started secondary characters of the same class. Burst up to level 20, then just use the storage system to switch your light-heavy gear across and tackle the raid multiple times each week. Doubles your chances of getting the stuff you want/need.

      • I appreciate the advise, but this is not my first rodeo ^_^

I have 2 Titans as main class I use for raiding. And I had to make a warlock that I don’t raid with, just because I really like the character design.

Still 0 titan armour pieces. Titan mark x3, Vision of confluence x2, Praediths revenge x3, Corrective measures x2, Atheons epilogue x3 and Found verdict x1. Also got Red death and Gjallarhorn from the chests. So it’s not like I’ve come away completely empty handed.

The fact one raid member got gloves/boots/chest in the first 2 runs just rubs salt in the wound :P

        Just my luck I guess.

    • I had my first raid the night before last. Pretty much everyone got shards and enegery, except me who got raid boots and exotic auto rifle Monte Carlo. Beginner’s luck, of course :D

  2. That is quite pricey but the appeal of new strikes and a new raid is very tempting. Raising the level cap is a pretty decent move as well, even if most people probably haven’t even reached level 30 yet.

I’ll probably end up getting the expansion pass because my mates will do the same but unless entire fireteams agree on getting the expansions I can’t see this selling very well.

    • some of my mates have already agreed, myself including that we wont be paying for the DLC at that price, it needs to be half that to make us want to get it.

      • Yeah, £20 is bloody steep (“Steep?? It’s effing vertical!!”) considering you could pick up a whole new game second hand for that sort of cash.

I like the idea of the content on offer (& am sad to be missing out tbh), but would never pay £20 for a bit of DLC.

      • Also, saving £5 on the DLC by buying the season pass isn’t actually that appealing. Should have been a better discount on that.

£10 for each of the packs & £15 or so for the season pass probably would have sold itself.

  3. Wow twenty quid is quite dear! Still haven’t managed to do a Raid yet and i have been stuck on lvl 26 for nearly a month now! Getting slightly p***** off with this game.

    • Buying and upgrading the legendary gear with ascendant shards from doing the Raid, public events and I think, if you’re a little lucky, from daily story missions (I might be mistaken on the last one) should get you up to level 28, I think.

As for the raid, is it not having a party of 6 to play with, or getting stuck when you do try it?

      • Doing Vangard Tiger Strikes will get you Vangard Marks that you can spend on Legendary Armour – 65 will get you a Chest Piece or Leg Armour and 120 will get you a Helmet.

You can earn up to 100 per week.

Also, as Stephan says you can do the Dailies that will give you Ascendant Shards/Energy for upgrades and Strange Coins that you can spend on Exotic Weapons/Armour from Xür on the weekend.

You should level up to 28/29 quite quickly and be able to do the Raid no problem.

      • Cheers lads for the advice. It seems im just not grinding hard enough!

Yeah getting 6 players for the raid is bit of a nightmare.

      • If you’re having difficulty finding people to do the Raid with then you can log into Destiny Tracker and post a message looking for Raid friends – the response is normally pretty fast.

  4. That isn’t much content at all for that price. Jesus christ. The story missions you will do once, the two strikes for PS4 is nice, but two? It’s one for xbox owners.
    Then there is a raid?

Come on Activision, at least try to give us something for half the price of the original game.

That’s me out, so I might aswell stop playing as I have nothing to pay for.

  5. A soft level cap increase of +2? Umm, yay?

That aside, I’m sure I’ll end up getting this. It might be pricey, but considering how much time I’ll end up spending on it it’ll still end up cheaper than most games based on cost / time played. Looking forward to the strikes, and new bounties are most welcome.

    • just think £20 for DLC that will last not very long, or double it and you can get a brand new game, like COD / Far Cry4 or more. It seems a massive con.

  6. Nope, too expensive.

The only DLC I need this year is for Mario Kart 8.

  7. Mental that the game launched with little content and now they are charging £20 to top the game up. Fucking mental. Hopefully enough people leave this to send a message to Activision.

  8. I love the game, but £20 for this is a no go for me.

  9. Couple of raids and a little single player for £20.. that’s half the price of a full game. no thanks Bungie. :(
