Andy Serkis Joins The Voice Cast Of Volume

Sometimes voice performances can make a game, and Andy Serkis is certainly known for his excellent work in projecting performances to CGI and game characters in movies such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and games such as Heavenly Sword. So, it’s good news for Mike Bithell and his team that Andy Serkis will be joining the voice cast of Volume.

He’ll be playing Guy Gisborne, who is the villain of the game – he’s the CEO who runs the country of England in a near-future setting, with the game being a retelling of the Robin Hood story. The voice cast also includes YouTube star Charlie McDonnell as Robert Locksley, the game’s hero, and Danny Wallace – who you’ll recognise as the narrator of Thomas Was Alone – as his AI companion.

If you’re still not quite sure what Volume is, watch the trailer below. It’s essentially a stealth game in which the hero simulates robbing from the rich and broadcasts it to the world – quite an interesting take on Robin Hood.

We spoke to Mike Bithell about the game recently, and also previewed the title. The game will release on PS4 and PS Vita next year, with PC and Mac versions following soon after.

  1. This has got me really excited, Danny Wallace’s voice work for Thomas Was Alone was great so I can only imagine he’ll do just as good a job this time around. Strangely, I’m a massive Gollum fan – the guy gets too much negative press, Bilbo did steal the ring from him after all – so Andy Serkis can’t really do any wrong. It’ll be interesting to see how Charlie McDonnell does, no doubt it’ll be another light hearted voice added to the game which should be cool!

  2. Preciousssss…
