UK Charts 17/11/14: Advanced Warfare Retains The Top Spot

Despite their competitor’s best efforts, Activision and Sledgehammer have managed to stave off the launches of Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Halo: The Master Chief Collection to hold onto the top spot in the UK charts with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

It was a relatively close run thing, with COD:AW sales dropping 77% from launch, and Unity coming just 16,000 copies shy of the lead. Unity’s sales were split 52% to 46% in favour of the PlayStation 4, though, in a surprisingly even divide between platforms – the missing 2% going to the PC market.

There were several other newcomers, as LEGO Batman 3 swooped into 5th behind FIFA 15, with Assassin’s Creed: Rogue setting sail in 6th. PES 2015 then kicked off in 8th, unable to match EA’s month-old sales.

You’ll be glad to hear that I’ve run out of silly puns, so here’s the top 20 list:

  1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
  2. Assassin’s Creed: Unity
  3. Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  4. FIFA 15
  5. Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
  6. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue
  7. Minecraft: Playstation Edition
  8. Pro Evolution Soccer 2015
  9. World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor
  10. Destiny
  11. Skylanders Trap Team
  12. Minecraft: Xbox Edition
  13. Disney Infinity 2.0
  14. Football Manager 2015
  15. Alien: Isolation

  1. I’m a bit surprised to see Lego Batman above Warlords of Draenor.

    • Bats will be primarily on disc though, while WoW will surely be predominantly online purchases and upgrades these days. Digital doesn’t factor into these charts.

  2. I wonder how fast unity will drop down the charts.

  3. Glad to see pro Evo in top 10, quality game, best footy game out right now.

Sunset overdrive dropped really quickly, considering heavy titles it stood no chance

  4. Three Assassins Creed games simultaneously in the top 20, who do we need to have killed to prevent this from happening again .. ;)
It will be interesting to see if the last-gen version of GTA V will also see a spike in sales along with the next-gen release.

    • I think we just need WB to release more Lego games.

      • WB are just waiting for the inevitable Assassins Creed movie.. :)

      • I assume they feel comfortable with 24 frames per second already.

  5. The sales split between Unity on PS4 & xboxone is surprising given the PS4 is supposed to have sold double of treble the xboxone in the UK. Encouraging signs.

  6. I had a preorder for Unity, but cancelled in light of the frame rate stuff, which I know would ruin my enjoyment of the game.

Will be straight on it if they can patch around it, although their lack of comment on the issues would suggest it might be something that’s there to stay. A shame.

  7. Is this the first time a new AC release hasn’t gone in at number 1?

I ended up going with AC Rogue because I thought I would enjoy it more. I will be getting AC Unity at some point though. Probably next year, when they’ve patched it up.

Far Cry 4 is next on the list after Rogue and then maybe GTA V.

Nice to see Alien Isolation hasn’t completely disappeared (good word of mouth?). It’s a marmite game but it’s an excellent one.

    • Very curious about that too. Have most AC games hit the top spot on launch? If so, Unity’s damned itself to be the technical mess that many reviewers have commented on.
