LittleBigPlanet 3 EU Day One Patch Alleviates Certain Issues

Some of the common criticisms of LittleBigPlanet 3 when reviews went live this time last week were that it sadly featured a number of bugs and hiccups at launch. On our end, we stated in the review that the day one patch had not yet gone live for EU copies of the game, so we were mildly hopeful that this would alleviate these minor issues ahead of the EU launch this week.

That patch, version 1.02, arrived yesterday, adding on top of the fixes in version 1.01 that we had before reviewing. As you can see though, the PS4’s patch notes aren’t exactly very helpful in determining what’s been done:

Version 1.01

  • Support for additional DLC
  • Bug Fixes

Version 1.02

  • Bug Fixes
  • Network Stability Improvements

So Blair and I dipped a toe back in, to see what has been fixed and improved and what hasn’t, finding some mixed results. I first jumped into one of the Popit Puzzles to check on the popit load delay and frame skipping which I’d seen previously, finding that it has been thankfully been banished for me. However, Blair reported that he was still seeing a delay and frame skipping when calling up the popit even while in his own pod, which means this annoyance could persist for some players – he’ll be trying to reinstall the game at some point in the hopes that this helps.

Thankfully the hiccups in frame rate when collecting stickers in online co-op play have now disappeared, meaning that playing story missions for the first time online is much more enjoyable. The addition of lag when calling up the popit is still present though, as an extension of what Blair was still seeing locally, so try to avoid using the popit unless you have to. Sadly, the crash bugs which interrupted our stream last Tuesday hit us on two occasions, and there was still a degree of inconsistency with the game detecting other players online, which naturally makes joining a friend for multiplayer that much more difficult.

So it’s a mixed bag. The main fix seems to have been with the sticker hiccups, but with popit induced lag and crashes still present, it’s not quite perfect. We’ll need to keep our fingers crossed a little while longer that Sumo and XDev can stamp out those bugs soon and hopefully before we stream more of LBP3 on Friday!

*you need to download the latest patch to use this comment…….

    V1.01

Is every game going to get day one bug patches now then?

  2. You might as well create a template that has:

Day One Patch Alleviates Certain Issues

Because this is now the norm…if the game is not ready they should not release it.

  3. I wonder if disconnecting from the internet/turning off uPnP like with Fifa and Assassin’s Creed will effect the frame rate problems. Be interested to know because if that is the case there’s something definitely being missed.

  4. Hello!

Steven from the LittleBigPlanet Community Team here! (Twitter: @StevenIsbell)

We actually have some updates and workarounds on some known issues within LittleBigPlanet 3 that can be found here:
    http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/LittleBigPlanet-Pod/LittleBigPlanet-3-Known-Issues-Update-and-Workarounds/td-p/44752203

In particular, there’s a workaround listed for the Popit lag you’re experiencing during general game play.

The good news though is that we have a fix lined-up for that particular issue along with a number of the more prevalent issues for Game Update 1.3

We don’t have a confirmed date for release just yet but we’re pushing to add in as many fixes as possible, as well as some general stability improvements. We’re hoping to get it out to everyone as soon as possible though and will have more details of the fixes at the time of release.

Anyway! I hope that workaround helps you out in the meantime whilst you’re playing LittleBigPlanet 3! :)

    • Thanks, Steven. Great to see you posting too.

I’ll be picking it up Christmas time so hopefully most bugs, etc., will be gone by then. :-) Not just that but it gives the community time to work their magic with custom-built levels.

    • First things first, it’s great to see Steven from the forums finally get a job after various attempts serving in cake shops! :P
On a serious note though, great that you’ve taken the time to try and alleviate some of the issues experienced by people and suggesting possible workarounds on this wee gaming website. Also, top marks for meandering Bunny towards going all next gen this Yule ;)

    • Ha! I may have switched over to a new PS4 since the LBP3 review, which might explain that. I’ll tell Blair to have a clear out.

Appreciate you popping by, and hopefully further fixes will be along soon. :)

  5. Bring back charges for patches. If sony/MS charge devs £50k a patch, you can bet your life on it that the game would be ready for release day. And if they release it anyway, bad word of mouth costs sales. It’s too easy for devs to get away with releasing unfinished games.

    • Which would just lead to any bugs that sneak through (which IS going to happen, no matter how much testing and delays you have) never getting patched because it’s not worth the money.

  6. Is this day one patch business a conspiracy to render future disc base retro gaming as not very desireable? “Don’t play the shoddy old disc version, you can Pay us again for the digital patched version”
