Massive Assassin’s Creed Unity Patch Inbound; More Frame Rate Fixes On The Way

Assassin’s Creed Unity, like so many games these days, had a pretty rough launch and has been the subject of some pretty unhappy gamers. Ubisoft announced today that they’re releasing another comprehensive patch that addresses just about every aspect of the game in some way. This patch does tweak with the frame rate a little bit, but Ubisoft also pointed out that another patch specifically meant to improve the frame rate is in the works for a later date.

The PS4 version will received this patch today, Wednesday, with Xbox One and PC coming later in the week.

The patch notes in their humongous entirety can be found here, but here’s the highpoint on crash fixes and frame rate improvements:

Stability & Performance

  • Fixed numerous random crashes for both on Campaign and Co-op
    • (90+ various low reproduced crashes)
  • Fixed specific framerate drops
    • Improved general Framerate on PS4 by lowering the priority of the online services thread
    • Fixed FPS drops while Arno climbs on the RHP building of Palais de Justice
    • Fixed FPS drops when in climbing and pressing the Left Stick towards somewhere that is not climbable in certain areas
    • Fixed FPS drops in Sainte Chapelle

Yikes, 90 different crash fixes. Remember when games just worked when they came out? Me neither.

  1. Remember when games just worked when they came out?

I do, its called buying games made by Nintendo- whatever you think about em, their games do work pretty much out the box.

    • Nowadays when a game is ‘released’ by the developers, count 2-3 months and that’s the actually release date.
It’s like the sleeping rule. If a guy says he’s slept with 6 take off 5. If a girl says she’s slept with with 1 add on 5 haha.

  2. Spent about 12 hours with Unity now. Still had no crashes, and only noticed framerate drops a handful of times. The internet has totally blown these ‘issues’ out of perspective, in my experience at least.

    • How are you finding the game? What is it like to play compared to previous versions? I loved 2 and Black flag. Are the changes to combat an issue or do they just add to the game and change the way you play?

I have held off buying this until a few patches are ready but it is interesting to hear you have no problems with the game. Often it is hard to get the facts and stats about bugs when someone reports problems. The amount of people saying Driveclub was unplayable was annoying, it was not unplayable but some elements were not working, but it is like saying COD is not playable if the MP is not working.

      • For a lot of people, CoD would be unplayable if the mp didn’t work.

A hell of a lot of people really couldn’t give a toss about the singleplayer portion & get each release for the multiplayer aspect alone.

      • I’m enjoying it. It’s vast, seems never ending! But aside from the collectables, which are always gonna be tedious, the side missions are generally just as good as the main missions. It’s definitely a ‘classic’ AC game though. I loved Black Flag too, but I think it was so different, that it could have almost been it’s own franchise. The combat is good, but definitely pushes you towards stealth and more tactical approaches. I’ve just done a mission in a huge palace that was great. There were various optional objectives I could do to create diversions, but I still had to sneak through open windows and take out patrolling guards from hiding spots. To begin with, if you get in a fight with 4+ guards, you are better off running, but after a while, you learn all sorts of skills, earn items like smoke bombs gand upgrade your weapons so that you can easily take out large groups as long as you counter and are patient. If you like AC games, you’ll love this one.

      • Thanks Tactical, this may just may it’s way back up the list again.

Forrest_01 – OK I guess I could have picked a better example but you can see my point.

  3. Has anyone played rogue by the way? I wondered how this is compared to other versions, is it Black Flag on ice or is there a lot more to it. Would be good to see a TSA review as I was keen on both games.

    • Read a couple of reviews and watched a couple of video reviews. Most reckon it’s an extension (and natural progression) on Black Flag. However, things were positive and there were mentions of “if you like the franchise’s story, this is pretty damned essential”, etc.

I couldn’t give two hoots about the future-story thingie or the franchise but I loved Black Flag, hugely so. For this reason alone, I think I’ll pick up Rogue when it hits the PC (month or two, I think). :-)

    • Played Rogue first as Unity failed to turn up on release day (thanks Ubishop) really enjoyed it, felt it was kinda Black Flag 2, lots of reoccuring characters, also played very much like Black Flag which made getting into it really easy, also character was a little more likeable than connor from 3 so also a bonus. That apart I felt there was plenty of new things and tweaks added to make the game different enough not to feel like I was just playing Black Flag again.

  4. Makes you long for days like the PS1, PS2, SNES etc. where quality control actually mean’t something!

    • It does, but I guess what you have to bear in mind is that these consoles (barring PS2) couldn’t be connected online, so if a game did have a bug (or lots) it would have it/them until the end of time.

Don’t get me wrong, these day one (& onwards) patches just to fix stuff that really shouldn’t have gone wrong in the first place do annoy me somewhat, but I prefer that they actually have a method to fix these sorts of things these days than not at all.

      • Plus AC Unity is slightly more complex that Kirby Super Star on SNES!

  5. Every gameplay clip i have seen shows the main character constantly ghosting through NPC’s. Does this patch include a fix for that as it would annoy the hell out of me.

    • You’d prefer to stand in a virtual queue of 10,000 people?!

      • If he is British, then maybe. We Brits love queuing.

  6. Finished Unity with only 2 instances of lag which given all the reports was amazed about, however I didn’t actually start playing until the Monday after release so the patch must have really helped, Only 6 trophies off platinum and 4 of those are co-op related. Might be in line for my first PS4 platinum.
