Assassin’s Creed Creator Working On New AAA Historical Action Game

Last month Patrice Désilets, creator of Assassin’s Creed and former member of THQ Montreal, opened a new AAA game development studio under the name Panache Digital. According to a press release issued by Désilets, the team has started work on an upcoming third person “Historical-Action-Survival” game. Sounds kind of familiar, wouldn’t you say?

The studio head isn’t shying away from AAA game territory, either. “I believe in them,” he says. “I believe wholeheartedly that this medium we call “video games” can be a positive force for change in our society and that AAA quality gaming experiences have unmatched strength to achieve this.”

Désilets worked with Ubisoft Montreal as the creative lead on Assassin’s Creed and its sequels, Assassin’s Creed II and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. He then left the studio in 2010, joining the newly-formed THQ Montreal a year later.

During the collapse of THQ, the studio was sold to (would you believe it?) Ubisoft, who had Patrice in their employ once again before he left in 2013, now leading his own team at Panache.

Although details on the studio’s debut are few and far between, it’s worth mentioning that Désilets has mentioned his past project, 1666, on numerous occasions. This, paired this with the announcement that Panache is hatching a historical action game suggests that the Assassin’s creator is finally gearing up to show his trump card.
