Community Round-Up: 25/04/15

Things have picked up again here at TSA, with a good amount of reviews and previews to be read. I wonder how long it will last as the release schedule still seems pretty bare, although there are a few big ‘uns on the horizon.

So, grab a shovel as we dig into week’s Community Round-Up!

Looking at the Meets, Monday will see the usual GT6 Meet, followed by Battlefield on Friday, with a few GTA V Heists meets thrown in also.

If you’d rather play something else, you can add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

Heading to the Previews first, Stefan looked at Alienation, a mash-up between Resogun and Dead Nation. Housemarque seem to be onto yet another winner, and Tef thinks this could be their best yet. This was followed by Guns Up!, a free to play, real time strategy game set in WW2 that sees you sending troops to capture your enemy’s HQ. It does look quite fun, and the cartoon visuals give it a Fat Princess vibe.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was released last year on PC to heaps of praise, and this year it will be making its way to PS4, running on the visually superb Unreal Engine 4 to make it look even better. Another game that was released a few years ago, and was also well received, was Knights of Pen & Paper. The sequel is looking to build upon that, refining and polishing the core concept, while still maintaining its sense of humour.

This week Kris finally got to play Radial-G, a game he’d wanted to see at Rezzed but was held up by the large queues. He can see why everyone queued for it though, as he thought it was perfect for VR and a must for fans of WipEout and F-Zero. Lastly, Stefan, Matt and Aran had a go at Magicka 2, although as you can probably guess, they were constantly killing eachother, as the video shows!

Moving onto the Reviews now, our high scorer was Affordable Space Adventures, which sees you taking control of a small spaceship. Dom loved it, and called it “a game that Wii U owners simply need to experience”, scoring it a 9/10.

Next up, we had three titles that all sat on 7/10’s. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China differs from the usual AC formula by being a 2.5D side-scrolling stealth platformer, which Aran enjoyed along with the art style, but found the combat clunky and the story poor. He also played Infinity Runner, and again found clunky controls detracted from the generally fun gameplay and impressive visuals.

For Tuffcub’s review of We Are Doomed, he summed it up by calling it “a twin stick shooter, you control a blob, you have one weapon, one super weapon, and there are two game modes with online leaderboards. It’s quite fun but pricey.”

Our final review comes from the makers of Surgeon Simulator. I Am Bread “stands out as one of the more ludicrous creations” but as with many of these games, the controls can become frustrating, hence Stefan gave it a 6/10 but did note it’s that type of game that’s best experienced with friends.

Last week saw new info for the upcoming Battlefront game, and as a result, the TSA Staff talked about their all-time favourite Star Wars game. On the Chronicle, the new Battlefront, Project CARS’ resolution and Guitar Hero Live featured in Hot Topics. Meanwhile on WeView, Advanced Warfare received a split Verdict between Buy It and Sale It, as Mario Kart 8 jumps into the limelight as the new game.

Tidying up, there was Episode 176 of the Podcast as What We Played celebrated its 200th entry!

It was another quiet week for the Forums, but let’s see what threads are still going:

Enjoy your week and I’ll see you soon, bye!
