If you’re a Nintendo fan and are looking forward to playing the fantastic racing sim, then you may be waiting longer than expected. Slightly Mad Studio head, Ian Bell, has admitted in a recent forum post that they are struggling with the Wii U version.
Though the newer hardware of the PS4 and Xbox One were able to achieve high levels of fidelity and performance, the studio head confirmed that they are having problems getting it to run well on the Nintendo console. Bell said that at the moment the Wii U version is running at “23FPS” and 720p resolution. However, if they were to bring the performance up to standard then they would have to “cut the looks back” which is something they clearly don’t want to do.
Bell strongly hints at several points during the thread that the studio is awaiting news on the NX, hoping that Nintendo will announce this at E3 as being a new console which will have enough power to do their game justice. He may have a long time to wait though, as Nintendo have previously confirmed that the NX is in the development stage and no news will be released on it until next year.

Not surprised, the Wii U has a big performance deficit to the PS4 and Xone.

Agreed. It barely bridged the gap between this gen and the old guard (read: PS3, 360).

I wonder what it looks like graphically. We know it should be able to match/outdo GT6, so what’s causing it? Could the engine be very CPU based or inefficient on a PowerPC architecture?

The game is built from the ground up for high performance platforms. Scaling it back to the degree SMS need to is difficult when assets and integral functions of the game engine are designed with a higher resource budget in mind.
PCars would be able to outdo GT6 were the game built for Wii U, but at best we’re looking at a port that could end up looking a bit more rough than GT6.
