The Last Guardian, hey? A title whose own development story could be told in a separate game or movie. If that were the case then a possible ending would be the cancellation of the project, and according to Shuhei Yoshida that almost happened. Apparently the only real reason The Last Guardian still exists at all is because fans constantly asked for it, despite only really seeing one trailer in 2009 before everything went quiet until this year’s E3.
The information comes from an interview in EDGE magazine.
“Tech issues aside, the game was still early in development, so we had to have a really strong desire to continue the project and rebuild on PS4. And of course we believed in the vision of Ueda-san, and Ueda-san and the core teams really wanted to see this realised, and so did I. Having so many people asking us about the game was great encouragement for us to continue the development.”
Yoshida goes on to say that if people had stopped talking about and asking for The Last Guardian then Sony would have cancelled it. So if there are other games out there that you would like to see finally released then badgering developers may just work. As an aside if anyone at Rockstar is reading this then an update on Agent would be swell.

Do you think it WAS cancelled though and Sony not having anything else that they were ready to reveal at e3 (that we didn’t already know about) decided to dig it (and the FFVII remake) up again because they knew it would get people talking and was an easy way to please the fans?
People have been asking for these games for years. It seems odd that they would both suddenly pop up out of nowhere.

That’s interesting, as imho the gameplay reveal at this years e3 did not look like it was PS4 graphics, it looked exactly the same as when it was first revealed. Still stoked for it regardless.

Me too actually. I wasn’t too fussed about it when it was first announced all those years ago but I am looking forward to it now. I just hope it will actually be released when they say it will and this wasn’t revived as some kind of stunt in an attempt to out-do the competition.

Sony have rarely listened to fans unless it coincides with their own interests, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the grabbed the project and pushed in order to fill E3.
Its a shame they can’t listen to the users shouting for a better PSN.

I have a feeling this game is going to be a huge disappointment. Games that spend this long in development never end well.

@ RudeAwakening
I believe Sony have stated that the PS3 version they showed years ago was very polished-up PS3 version. In other words; what they showed was ultimately possible on the PS3 thus they moved it to the PS4 to realize that version in full.

Hopefully this means we’ll actually get a new Gravity Rush even if it’s on PS4 and not Vita.
Actually can you imagine how gorgeous it would be on PS4 as the first game was already quite a looker on Vita.
