Out This Week: King’s Quest, The Swindle & Legend of Kay

Yep, you’ve guessed it. As we slowly shamble towards the last month of summer (if you can really call it that) we’er once again left with little in the way of new releases. With one, rather lonesome, remaster hitting store shelves, many will no doubt turn to digital platforms for their gaming fix.

That remaster, as you’re probably wondering, is The Legend of Kay Anniversary. It’s been ten years since the original game – developed by Neon and Firehazard studios – released on PlayStation 2 with a Nintendo DS version in tow. Truth be told, I hadn’t even heard of it prior to Nordic Games’ announcement of this celebratory HD remaster.

Launching on PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PC, The Legend of Kay has undergone some cosmetic work and is now blessed with improved models, textures, and rendering techniques. Beneath the flashy new looks, however, it’s still the same solid action platformer fans enjoyed all those years ago.

Speaking of platformers, this week gives us a proper look at N++, a stylish digital game launching exclusively on PlayStation 4. Next to that we have Badlands, which started life as a game for mobile and tablet, and will be swinging and bobbing its way onto a Wii U gamepad near you.

While we’re in the mood for a bit of nostalgia, some of you will glad to hear that King’s Quest will being making its return later this week. Published under Actvision’s recently-revived Sierra Entertainment label, players will be treated to a modernisation of the popular adventure game series. There are a planned total of six chapters.

Truth be told, this is the first I have heard of it now! :S

    … Or never heard of… ;)

Kinda glad for the yearly summer ‘drought’ though tbh – Means I can finally pick up Batman today & give that a good go sometime soon & have been eyeing my (now somewhat dusty) PS3 collection recently & thinking I may try to get back to get some of those finished too.

  2. Going by the Legend of Kay video, remastering now involves squashing a game’s visuals and putting a large border around it.

    • I’ve just watched some review footage and the video above doesn’t do it justice. There’s no border and it actually looks quite nice for a PS2-era game. That camera though.. now i remember why i didn’t enjoy it.

      • I quite liked that game although its a funny choice for a remastering as there’s a few others in the same genre I’d have gone for before that one.
