Capcom Looking For Opinions On Possible Resident Evil 2 Remake

We’ve been hearing rumours about a Resident Evil 2 remake for as long as I can remember, and since we’re right on the heels of a very successful re-release of the Gamecube’s version of the original Resident Evil, and the announcement of Resident Evil Zero getting the same treatment, it seems like the timing is just about right for Capcom to re-visit the first adventures of Leon and Claire.

Of course, this is a very touchy situation. For many fans, this is the pinnacle of Resident Evil gaming and it wouldn’t take much to anger the dedicated fan base that want to see it done right (or not at all). Capcom understands that, it seems, as they recently took to the Resident Evil Facebook page to voice these concerns and ask for honest opinions about a remake. That post can be found just below.

First off, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all Resident Evil fans, for your passion, enthusiasm and continued support for the Resident Evil brand.

Enthusiasm for a Resident Evil 2 Remake is something we’ve been hearing from you over the years, and has drawn some recent attention in the media.

However, as the team owns the RE brand, we’re not certain how we feel about this approach, and would like to ask your honest and frank opinion about the “Resident Evil 2 Remake” and what the brand identity is supposed to be about?

If you’d like to chime in so that they can hear you, you can respond directly to the post from here. Otherwise, we’d love to hear what you think in the comments. Should they do it? Should they just remaster it with shinier visuals or should they go the route of the Gamecube remake of the first Resident Evil and add other elements?

  1. If they can do exactly what they did with the first remake. Then YES!
I love Resident Evil 2 and want no. 3 for a remake as well!

  2. Given how the first remake was a hugely different experience thanks to the Crimson zombies, it would be interesting to see how Capcom would make the remake of Resident Evil 2 fresh to fans. Something unexpected and terrifying, yet in keeping with the setting would be great.

  3. I haven’t played RE2 in years but I remember being genuinely scared when I played it back in the day.

The biggest issue I have with the modern RE games (and there are a few) is that the characters are so idolised and sacred to them that they’re practically superheroes or gods. I don’t want to see people flying around dodging bullets like Neo from the Matrix. Yawn.

I’d love to see them start from scratch and have ordinary, human/relatable characters again like I remember them in the original games. Bring back slow zombies but have them in groups and with limited ammo to increase the tension/threat. Something similar to the opening chapter of The Last of Us but with Zombies. Show the panic of the initial outbreak and the chaos as everything falls apart.

Really, they just need to dial it down a few notches because RE5 and especially RE6 were so over the top, I barely managed to get through them.
