Console Versions Of Payday 2 Get Free Cash, Overkill Apologise For PC Microtransactions

Players of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Payday 2 are to get some free goodies in the shape of an “unique” mask called The Unforsaken, and $10 million in-game cash.

Meanwhile, the PC version has been beset with criticism due to the introduction of microtransactions.

“The past few weeks have been some of the most challenging in the history of this community,” explained producer Almir Listo on PayDay 2’s Steam page.

“Players have been angry with us, media have written about us en masse and our volunteer moderators went on strike. For all the distress we’ve caused the past few weeks, I’d just like to take the time and say that we’re sorry. We’ve done a lot of things right in the past, but these past few weeks we screwed up.”

It should be noted that at no point have Overkill said they will remove the troublesome transaction, merely that they we will be more pro-active in engaging their community.

  1. Oh, i wonder why the community got so pissed off. I mean, it’s just a £1.90 drill that you can’t obtain unless you fork out the cash for it and can use it to drill into safes, in a bank robbery game. Nah, people are silly.

And those PC players don’t know how to appericate the fine art of paying for everything after a change of attitude from the developer. Long live being flogged for everything we need in the game in the future!

    End of sarcasm.

What about the damn PC version? Do they not deserve to get the same free apology stuff? I mean, i’m no expert but i’m sure that it still has a massive userbase and chances are, they are a majority of the community due to steam. But screw you, give us cash, right? I mean, why should the PC gamers get the same stuff after being screwed by you? And no end of microtransactions is going to be the end of you. Even if Payday 3 is announced, chances are, it will be met with a lot of scorn because of how you screwed over your own userbase.

In fact, why am i even annoyed by this? I’ve not played it, don’t really care for it and yet, i am annoyed by Overkill?! I mean, wow. Just wow. That surprises even me and usually, i don’t pay attention to microtransactions for more then one news article. :O

    • A handful of us enjoyed the game immensely in the beginning but it was tinkered with so heavily that it eventually turned us off and this was after the game had come out of beta testing/Early Access.

Very disappointed mainly because the concept of the game is so strong.
