Star Wars Battlefront: More Free DLC On The Way

DICE has confirmed that there will be more free content coming to Star Wars Battlefront following next month’s “Battle Of Jakku” expansion. The bonus content pack, available to everyone from December 8th, hosts an all-new game mode and two maps based on the planet Jakku which features prominently in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

EA’s generosity – if you can call it that – doesn’t stop there, however. In a recent blog thanking fans for their launch week support, DICE revealed that more maps, star cards, and other free add-ons will be rolled out in the coming months alongside conventional, paid-for DLC expansions. The Battlefield developer has four of these premium packs in the pipeline available collectively via the £40 season pass.

If there’s one thing players have been vocal about over the past seven days, it’s Battlefront’s lack of content. With no substantive singleplayer options punters have been forced to take the fight online across a series of beautiful, albeit repetitive and occasionally imbalanced, maps and modes. Whether the announcement of more free content is in reaction to fan feedback is anyone’s guess though current owners will no doubt be pleased with the arrival or more things to see and do in-game.

  1. Good stuff. Free DLC is always welcome.

I’ve only played a couple hours but as a Star Wars fan and someone who rarely plays online I’ve really enjoyed it. It was never going to be a game that I’d play for hours on end, rather something cool to dip in and out of between those long sessions of Metal Gear V. 200+ hours later and I’m still only at 90% completion…

    • I know the feeling :). Just gone over the 200 mark, still got another 15 missions to get S ranks and all the objectives. Then I’ve gotta catch all those animals which I hope doesn’t take ages because I want to move on.

  2. I’d like offline vs bots options for all the online modes, absolutely everything. I’d definitely buy a complete edition of the game if it had all the DLC and this, as a posterity thing.

    • That would be cool, I think they’re looking to add bots to Battlefield 4 so maybe it’ll be possible in the future?

  3. Good news! Looks to me like a change in MO and response to the community feedback. Look at what Dice did for battlefield 4 with the free extra content, e.g. “community operations” and “night operations” and “dragons valley 2015”.

  4. If I were being really cynical then I would say that this is a cunning ploy to maintain player engagement with the game through free updates and free DLC. Those who initially opt not to go for the Season Pass will likely still dip in to the game for the new free updates and DLC and then perhaps feel as though they should get the paid-for stuff to be part of the whole game community. Cunning.
    Of course, I’m no cynic.

    • Isn’t that a decent marketing ploy then say, activision where nothing is free and if you don’t purchase the dlc you’ve effectively gimped yourself?
