Community Chronicle: 29/11/15

Today’s the final race of the F1 season, but I’ll be honest, even if I was at home I might give it a miss. There’s not much to fight for, there’s not likely to be much of a fight for the win, and there’s just no real excitement to it all a moment.

Hopefully next season can bring a little more spice to the racing, and not just a procession at the front.

It’s a fascinating decision from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja to make, but they’ve decided not to release the notorious Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 in the west, because of the cultural differences and the reaction that the scantily clad women would receive.

Hazelam said, “Personally, I think it’s a shame they’re not releasing it. They’re happy to release a game where the women fight in little bits of string barely covering their private parts, but women on a beach, or in a pool, wearing bikinis?

“I bet you if the DOAX series were big sellers, they’d still be releasing it, but it’s a relatively niche series so it’s not going to cost them millions of sales. When the next DOA beat em up comes around, they’ll still release it, with outfits as skimpy as ever for the women.”

Starman agreed, saying, “They should just release it and state that they see nothing wrong with it even if others do. I’ve seen a lot worse in games than a few wobbly bits,” and stefhutch20 added that “It always confuses me how extreme violence is seen as the norm in video games these days, while jiggling boobs cause a torrent of moral outrage.”

It’s a strange world we live in.

It’s been a fantastic year for Sony and the PlayStation 4, which as shown few signs of slowing down. In fact, the company was able to say that they’ve breezed past the 30 million sales mark, and done so two months faster than the PlayStation 2 did.

“I still remember the BBC’s report when the PS4 launched,” Starman said, “and the presenter said Sony would struggle because people preferred the likes of Angry Birds on their iPads now. How wrong they were.”

Of course, there’s still an air of mystery to how far behind this Microsoft’s Xbox One is, but Bunimomike thinks that “Microsoft aren’t really embarrassing themselves. To give them credit, they are fighting tooth and nail to get the gamer’s respect back as well as undo the damage they did at the announcement E3 many moons ago. Not just that but they’re also bring great franchises to the platform, just like Sony is doing with the PS4.”

Ron_mcphatty observed that “Even numbered PlayStations seem to be a winning setup, Sony should go straight to 6 next.” Which means it’s a crying shame that they didn’t brand the Vita as the PSP2…

Speaking of the PS Vita, its trump card these days – Remote Play – looks like it will be spreading its wings and taking off with a PC/Mac app in the not-too-distant future.

Andrewww opined, “As much as I still hold on to mine and like playing through my Plus library on it, this is the final blow to the Vita. RIP.”

Youles joked that “I may need to ask my employer for a PC upgrade, for lunch breaks!” but added that he’s “not sure it’ll work for me – I’ve never been able to get my Vita to switch my PS4 on from work – probably a firewall/port issue.”

It’s something which seems to plague a lot of those commenting…

Youles has been a busy bee in Black Ops 3, making good use of the double XP weekend to get to level 40 – though he’s already tired of the same maps being picked repeatedly – and getting through most of the Shadow of Evil Zombies mode trophies. He also grabbed platinum trophies for Back to the Future and Need for Speed, for his 95th platinum and 6,000th trophy overall!

Eldave0 did manage to prestige using Black Ops 3’s double XP weekend, and had similar complaints, but turned his gaze to a new playthrough of Bloodborne through the week.

The Lone Steven managed to finish the main story of Saints Row IV, calling it by far the best in the series, while over on the Xbox One, Starman thoroughly enjoyed his time playing through Rise of the Tomb Raider. JR. also completed the game, but felt the pacing was a little off and it was a little forgettable.

BadBoyBoogie‘s gone back through his recent trophies and discovered a few records that he can claim, including Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Back to the Future, Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, SingStar and two generations of Tales from the Borderlands!

Andrewww nabbed the platinum for Driveclub – his 11th – as freezebug finishes one of the three Uncharted games on hard difficulty, and pdannysan13 finished the Arkham City story.

  1. I think the way that the F1 season has ended could at least indicate a fight between the Mercedes drivers next season, also with all new cars could hopefully involve a few more teams in that fight!
Playing through Uncharted Crushing and got past the Plane-Wrecked level only to be greeted by the Fortress water level, oh crap I’d forgotten that one, but surprisingly sailed through it (pardon the pun) :P
My Just Cause 3 game was dispatched today so the Nathan Drake Collection might have to go on the back boiler for a bit!

    • I hope everything that’s pinned to happen in F1 2016 will definitely happen. If so, it’ll mean back up to 11 teams with Manor and Haas hopefully being competitive, Renault as a third works team, and Aston Martin leading the Force India team into new performance levels. Plus there’s the hope of Williams getting in to the fight, along with improvements from Red Bull and McLaren in the engine department, and as you mention the Merc drivers battling out.

      Here’s hoping for that fight!

      • Manor and Haas said together in an eastendery accent could indicate our good mate Manorhowze from the racing fraternity…is he keeping something from us lol.
Yup to the fight in 2016 ;)
