Lando Calrissian To Join Star Wars Battlefront In June Via The Bespin Expansion

EA has confirmed some details for Star Wars Battlefront’s Bespin expansion, which will be released in June with Season Pass holders getting it for free. The biggest addition will be iconic character Lando Calrissian entering the fray, as well as the bounty hunter Dengar. Cloud City will be the focal point of the four maps that are released, with AT-ATs making their presence felt in the city, and Fighter Squadron battles taking place in the skies around it. A new game mode will be added to though it hasn’t been detailed.

During run up to the Bespin release expect more community events and double score weekends, as well as new Star cards. There are special plans for the May 4th, aka Star Wars day, though details of what that will entail won’t be revealed until closer to the time.

  1. Lando was pretty obvious for the next expansion. Dengar is a bit of an odd choice. Not a bad one, but if they were going to go with one of the bounty hunters then I’d imagine Bossk or IG-88 would be far more interesting choices.

    The difficulty is that there are hardly any main villains in the original trilogy. Apart from Vader, Palpatine and Boba Fett (who is a tentative villain at best if you’re a fan of the old Expanded Universe) there isn’t anyone else who really stands out as unique. Apart from Jabba I guess, but I can’t imagine them making him a playable character. Would be awesome if they do.

    I’d like to see them bringing out new fighters in an expansion pack, either as basic units or hero units. Cloud city would be a great opportunity to expand on that.

    • Yes, Bossk and IG-88 are exactly the ones I thought of as well. However, the reasoning also immediately occurred.

      Dengar is distinctly humanoid. Bossk and IG-88 would require a separate skeleton. DICE – or should I say, EA wearing DICE like a sock puppet – are too lazy to take the time to do that.

  2. The bounty hunter Dengar, of course… ? I really like Star Wars but you have to be particularly in to it to who this character is. Me thinks they have just scraped the bottom of the barrel.

    Anyway, SW Battlefront, I haven’t played it for a few months now. It felt so lightweight, like Battlefield size 0. I haven’t bought the season pass and I doubt I shall go back to the game.

  3. Sorely tempted by this, but I think I’ll stick out for some sort of mega edition of the game hopefully with all the DLC and maybe even VR!
    It’s all gone a bit quiet on expanding the offline options. I had a go with Battlefront 2 last week and whilst the AI is thick as two short planks, it’s still brilliant fun

    • Here’s one of the bullet points from their recent post;

      “We also have a couple of surprises in store that we know our fans have been looking for, especially those who have been clamoring for ways to have more options to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront offline. More to come soon.”

      So hopefully some game modes will be available offline. I think a campaign is too much to hope for, but still it’s something.

    • Your lack of faith is disturbing.

      • Get this walking carpet out of my way.

  4. Pray that EA doesn’t alter the deal and swap out Denga for Jar Jar Binks.
