PlayStation 4 Sales Tripled In The UK On The Back Of PS4 Pro Launch

PlayStation 4 sales have lagged behind the Xbox One in recent months, but even as Microsoft got to have a celebratory tipple, there was always the feeling that the announcement and impending release of the Playstation 4 Pro was acting as a spoiler to Sony’s hardware sales.

That much seems to have been borne out by a week to week increase in PS4 sales of 204%, more than tripling the sales. The PlayStation 4 Pro accounted for nearly all of that increase, with 65% of these for the new console, but the standard PS4 also rose slightly by 8.5% over the previous week.

Meanwhile, there was still cause of joy at Microsoft, with last week’s price drop on original design Xbox Ones helping to push an 85% week-over-week increase. (Those discounts haven’t ended yet, by the way)

The battle between the two platforms has tightened over the last few months – in monthly sales if not market share – so the PS4 Pro has given Sony’s sales a much needed boost. Can that momentum carry through to the Black Friday sales and see Sony trump Microsoft?

  1. It’s good to see the launch of the Pro has helped increase the sales of PS4, 35% is not a bad hike.

    • No, no. PS4 makes up 35% of the total weekly sales. An 8.5% increase week on week for base PS4, not 35%.

      • I get it now, read it wrong. Cheers Tef.

  2. Seems the only weeks Xbox had some sales, were the weeks PlayStation owners were awaiting the slim and pro releases.

Microsoft, put the bubbly away, that really isn’t something to be proud of. If anything the lack of real numbers from you is further evidence that things are worse than even the worst estimates of Xbox firesale figures.

    • Being a dick lodged in Sony’s nether region isn’t something to be proud of. Think about that. Not that I’m suggesting anything against any one TSA member of course. Just saying.
