Lead Tomb Raider Reboot Writer Rhianna Pratchett Will Not Be Involved With Next Game

The lead writer for the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot and Rise Of The Tomb Raider Rhianna Pratchett has announced that she is leaving the series behind to work on new things. This means that the next Tomb Raider game will have a new lead writer, though who that will be remains to be seen. Rhianna has not announced what game project she will be working on next.

Rhianna’s other past works have included involvement in Mirror’s Edge, Heavenly Sword, the Overlord series and BioShock Infinite.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. Lead writer for new Naughty Dog franchise I hear.

  2. Have to say I’m not sorry to see her go. The Reboot was great but Rise of the Tomb Raider was lazy and uninspired to say the least.

I wish her well in her endeavours but am thankful that we may now see a worthy follow up to the brilliant reboot.

Camilla Luddington needs to go too IMO. I didn’t mind her in the reboot but found her voice work extremely grating in the sequel. We need a wise Lara who speaks with great knowledge and confidence, not some girl trying too hard to deliver every sentence in a sexy, sultry tone but sounding like she’s in the midst of a stroke. Keeley Hawes was a much, much better.

  3. Isn’t there a chance she’s already written the next game?

    • That’s a possibility, yes, but the role of lead writer will necessarily move on to someone else and the story and script could change drastically between now and any game announcement, let alone its final release.

  4. I thought she did a great job on the first game but i’m not sure what happened with the second one, certainly there was a lot more wrong with it than just the story though.

  5. Tbf, the story was the least of Rise of the Tomb Raider’s problems. The next game needs less combat and more puzzles/tomb raiding!

    • that’s disappointing to hear, was going to get it whilst it’s on offer in the store (Christmas money) have to rethink.
