Oculus Cuts Price Of Rift Headset And Touch Controls

Oculus has announced that it is cutting the price of the Oculus Rift headset and the motion controllers with immediate effect. When the Rift was released in September the price for the headset alone was £549, with the Touch controls releasing later with an RRP of £189.99. The total price for both would have been £738.99 if you paid full price. From today the headset is available from £499 and the Touch Controls are £99, cutting the total price down to £598, a saving of £140.99. The price in the US is also now $598 for both headset and controllers but that doesn’t include sales tax.

Of course you’ll still need a decent PC to run the headset and software but the price cut is an aggressive one, especially when you consider that in the middle of last year HTC put the price of the Vive up to £759 due to the climate surrounding the UK’s currency.

  1. Oculus Thrift.

  2. Are they hoping to sell as many as possible in case Zenimax is successful in halting sales?

  3. It pretty much works out as free Touch controllers compared to the old price, might ensure that more rift owners pick them up so that they can focus more on developing VR experiences around that control method.
