EA Reveal Their E3 EA Play Line Up - New Star Wars Battlefront & Need For Speed Incoming

Bye bye, London.

EA was one of a few publishers to take a step away from the main E3 show last year, deciding to hold their own tangential event instead. EA Play is back again this year, running from 10th-12th June in Hollywood, and EA have just revealed what it is they plan to show, all of which will be available for hands on play in a venue that is open to the public.

The headline acts will be a new Star Wars Battlefront game and a new Need for Speed game, and these will exist alongside EA Sports titles Madden NFL 18, FIFA 18 and NBA Live 18. However, they write on their blog that “This isn’t all, by the way… and we’ll have more to share in the coming months.” Expect a few surprises.

One big difference to last year is that EA have ditched the London side of the event, which led to the amusingly bad back and forth between the two sides of the Atlantic.

Seeing mention of a new Need for Speed kinda makes me wonder what Criterion have been up to lately. Can’t remember seeing any news of them for a while now.

Criterion no longer works on Need for Speed :) They made the VR experience for battlefront after handing the keys over to Ghost Gothenburg.

Didn’t they have that open world racing game in the works, then cancel it at some point before Christmas? Massive shame, but more NFS is exciting and I’m very keen to see more Battlefront! Let’s hope there’s more VR content.

Criterion made Star Wars Battlefront’s X-Wing VR mission, and they’re one of a few studios working on the sequel.

They did??! I had no idea! I adore that VR mission, it was like being a kid again saving the galaxy as Ace Azameen, only like a dream come true. I hope so much there’s a lot more coming.

The last Need for Speed was done by Ghost (ex Criterion & ex Dice people) in Gothenburg. I guess they’re at it again.
