Inazuma Eleven Ares Will Be Coming To Platforms Beyond Nintendo 3DS

As the old argument for bacon flavoured ice cream goes, if you like football and you like JRPGs, then you’re bound to love the Inazuma Eleven series. The latest instalment in the long running series, Inazuma Eleven Ares, is due out this year, having been announced during the Level-5 Vision 2016 event last July, and it’s looking set to be a big step forward for the games.

Having debuted on Nintendo DS in 2008, the series has largely been tied to Nintendo’s handheld consoles, outside of the three spin off Strikers games for the Wii. However, Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino teased fans during their fourth Inazuma Walker live stream, saying that Ares “will also release on something other than 3DS. It may also release on what you would call a higher quality game machine… perhaps.”

There was already the suspicion that this would be the case, with two screenshots released back in December of much higher visual quality than what the 3DS is capable of – they’re in 1080p, for one thing. The question remains what platform or platforms he’s referring to. Given the series’ history, the safe bet would be to assume that it’s Nintendo’s latest platform, the sometimes handheld, sometime TV-bound Nintendo Switch, but could it also be a possibility that Level-5 are eyeing up the PlayStation 4?

Here’s those two screenshots:
