Battlefield 1 To Let Premium Pass Owners Temporarily Share Their DLC With Friends

Splitting up a multiplayer community sucks, and keeping players united under one umbrella is a big reason why games like Titanfall 2 and Sniper Elite 4 have decided to make their new maps and modes free for all players. Battlefield 1 is still rooted to the older model, with individual expansion packs and an overarching Premium Pass

However, what EA and DICE have planned helps to bridge that gap with a new Premium Friends scheme set to run during the upcoming Battlefest that starts tomorrow on 30th March. During this event – though I can’t see when it ends, just when it starts! – players that own Premium will be able to invite other players to their party and take them into maps and odes from the recently released They Shall Not Pass expansion. That way, more people can hop in and battle on Verdun Heights or through the gorgeous countryside of Soissons.

Some things will remain exclusive to Premium owners, as follows:

  • In a “Premium Enabled” party, only owners of a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or the specific expansion pack will earn XP from the maps exclusive to that expansion. We will save the XP for everyone else and grant them retroactively if they decide to get the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass for themselves.
  • Only owners of a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or the specific expansion pack will be able to spawn in with weapons and vehicles unique for the expansion.
  • Only owners of a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or the specific expansion pack will track progress towards the unique medals and codexes for the expansion.

It’s a good step forward, and a nice move that offers a halfway house between free DLC and paid. If only it was a little more permanent!

  1. Thats quite a good idea. I know a couple of people with the premium pass, so I’ll ask them for a party invite next time they’re on. I need a reason to get back into BF.
