Something For The Weekend – 09/09/17

Love it or loathe it, Destiny 2 is one of the biggest games of the year. Now that you’ve had a few days to put some hours in, how are you guys finding it? Does it live up to your expectations?

In the News This Week

Competitions & Giveaways

Round 2 of the TSA Video Game Pub Quiz is currently live, and while there’s no prize this week, last week’s winner was Kevling, who took home a copy of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun for PS4.

Games in Review

Despite the release of Destiny 2 this week, it will be a while before we get our review of this live MMO together. In the power vacuum that left, Knack 2 was the strongest contender (no, really!) according to our scores:

This Week’s Features

Starting with Destiny 2, Stefan was on hand to offer his initial thoughts from the first few hours of the game. Dave explained how Phantom Doctrine was his favourite game from Gamescom – think “X-COM with spies” he says. Of the other VR games he tried out at Gamescom, he’s thrown together a handy round up of the titles we can expect to grace our headsets in the future, and then took a visit to Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

His last preview came in the form of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, while Tef got behind the wheel for some fun with cars and bikes in The Crew 2, which he called “a strange lovechild of The Crew and last year’s winter sports bonanza, Steep” thanks to its seamless vehicle switching.

Sticking with racers, Tef also had a look at Forza 7 – and decided it could be the ‘most refined racer of 2017’, in comparison to GT Sport and Project Cars 2. And, if you prefer arcade racers to sim games, then Gravel may be more to your liking with more ‘accommodating’ handling.

Wrapping up, Tef decided that the numerous delays to South Park: The Fractured But Whole have been worth it, Jim reckons Call of Duty: WW2’s multiplayer is the best he’s played since World at War, and Kris has fallen in love with Sonic Mania’s Boss Battles.

Finally, What We Played featured Knack, PES 18, and of course, Destiny!

Andrewww finally finished of Fallout 4 and promptly picked up Elite Dangerous as his next game to overdose on, while JR. completed Resident Evil: Revelations. He thought it was so good, he immediately bought the sequel, but has also found time to enjoy Knack 2.

MrYd has been enjoying the latest PS+ offerings, with RIGS being fun but suffering from a lack of online players.

In between the usual gaming, Pixel_nme aimed for his 40th platinum to coincide with his 40th birthday, but sadly the stars did not align. At least he’s got a whole year to plan his 41st platinum now!

I am perfectly happy without Destiny 2 and enjoy playing other games I find more interesting. ;o)

(But my thoughts are with all those being in the path of some horrible hurricanes on the other side of the planet.)
